I can't afford anything extra right now, besides prayers

A man at my work, who is about 35 with a 2 year old daughter, had been diagnosed last month with cancer. Last week the results came back- they weren't good. He doesn't have much time. The medication is $40,000 a month and he needs 'multiple' treatments. Guess what- insurance won't cover it. Big surprise huh?

I wish I could snap my fingers and let him see that he can use this suffering for good, but I think he's very secular, based on his e-mails. Thank you for posting this here. Hopefully someone can help.

I just had to post this -- CathInfo is a big forum now, and I figure there might be a few people looking for a good charity recipient.

Giving to this family would be much better than United Way, March of Dimes, Susan Komen foundation, etc.

And all those organizations dedicated to helping people have maintenance costs. Those who only have $10, $20, or $100 to give would best give it to someone local, who can use ALL of it instead of 75% or 60% of it. But even larger donations would be better if given to someone in person, directly. That's how charity was done for thousands of years!

Cancer isn't going to be cured by anyone's donations. You could donate $10 Trillion dollars (yes, I'm serious -- I know how much a trillion is!) and it wouldn't make any difference. Yes, you'd be in the papers if the donation wasn't anonymous, but Cancer would stay right where it is. It's already been "cured" several times by now, but the Cancer industry is too big and powerful to lay down its arms -- even if a cure is found. We'd all like to think that when they cure cancer, all the doctors, chemists, etc. will gladly start working at McDonald's or re-tool their careers for a cancer-free world. But that's not reality, unfortunately.

As an aside, I can't figure out for sure what denomination this man's family is. Is it only (novus ordo) Catholics that have married deacons?

The donation address is a Baptist church, the widow uses *lots* of Scripture quotes in her writing, etc.

I just thought it was a sad note that I couldn't easily figure out their religious beliefs -- even though they're probably (novus ordo) Catholic. But I don't mean to detract from this widow's situation right now. We can talk about the Novus Ordo later.

If he was part of Awana, he wasn't Catholic. It is reasonable to assume.the church taking donations is.their church. Protestant demoninations have deacons. They are a position of minor authority. Deacons and elders assist the pastor in running committees,.visiting the.sick etc...

I read some more of their blog -- the funeral was held at a Baptist church, so they're Baptist.
