Title: What chant is this?
Post by: Disputaciones on July 13, 2018, 12:13:44 AM
The author of the video is Novus Ordo, I didn’t know when I clicked on the video, but the chant in the beginning sound Gregorian, so just wondering if anyone recognizes it.

I don't hear it, and I've heard that chant before.

At what time in the one you posted does the same part play?

Your video contains just the first 3 lines of the hymn:

Pange, lingua, gloriósi
Córporis mystérium,
Sanguinísque pretiósi,...

Because they are the first lines of the hymn you can also hear them immediately at the beginning of the video I posted.

(The only differences are the wrong pronunciation of “Pange” in your video and the faster singing in my video, which is typical for Gregorian Chant sung by French.)

You're totally right, I'm sorry about that! What happened is that the only version I've heard of Pange Lingua sounds totally different, and I thought the one you posted was going to be the same, so I hadn't clicked on your video till now, and now I see it's different but the same as the video I posted.
Thanks.

Won't be long before the SSPX hymnal includes the variant -- "Pagli'rani gloriosus". (requires just a bit of ellision to fit the meter)

The Pange Lingua along with Tantum Ergo were a main part of the traditional Benediction.  Several different melodies were used.
