Is ball of fire just another circuмlocution for the sun?  If so, it's just the same thing.

No, Jesus is not disguised as the sun.

It's unanimous consensus of the Fathers and of all Catholics since then that when Our Lord returns the Final Judgment will follow immediately, and Our Lord Himself taught that it will be an obvious worldwide event that will not go unnoticed.

This question then leads into the scruples of whether or not there can be any forgiveness of sins after Our Lord returns.  Well, the reason that there may be some passages about how there will no longer be forgiveness of sins is PRECISELY because that will be the FINAL JUDGMENT, after which there will be no more, i.e. the end of the world.
