Update on My Husband Tom and an Urgent New Prayer Request:
Tom had confession and communion and received the traditional rite of Extreme Unction last evening.
He still has critical issues. His blood levels of potassium are still low. The doctor told me that the clls were starved for potassium, and have been absorbing it, so there is small increase in blood levels of potassium, but with continued IV potassium, they are hoping to correct that. His potassium was so low a couple of days ago, that he went into tachycardia, a dangerously high heart rate. He is being given beta blockers to counteract that.
His bladder is still distended, and the tissue of the bladder is very fragile and prone to perforation. So they have not yet done a colonoscopy because of this and the very low potassium levels. They do not therefore know what is the root cause of the chronic diarrhea and dilation.
He also had a urinary tract infection which got into his bloodstream. So he is on two antibiotics: one for this blood infection and one for his foot wounds.
He is still having periods of mental confusion, but now has his rosary brochure and is saying the rosary when he can stay awake.
Please pray for me today. At 1:00 PM Eastern Standard US time, I have a telephone interview with Jobs and Family Services in order to get Tom on the Medicaid Waiver Program. Unless I succeed in this endeavor, Tom will again be without adequate medical care when he is released from the hospital. Since he has bladder tumors, will have an ongoing bowel problem, should be under the care of a cardiologist, needs neurological assessment, needs new glasses for years now, needs a wound care specialist for debriding his wounds so they will heal...His life could literally depend on the outcome of this application. Ohio is a very hard state for getting on Medicaid Waiver or Medicaid. So I would greatly appreciate prayer for this. My last phone interview for myself was misquoted by the social worker and I almost lost my own Medicaid Waiver, which I have had for years. Previously, a social worker from the agency which sends his wound care nurse was going to come and listen to the interview on speaker phone, but since Tom is in the hospital, the insurance will not pay for such services, so she can not help. Please pray that the social worker i get at Jobs and Family Services is honest and kind.
