PRAYERS from the GREEK LITURGY ON THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
IDIOMELS SUNG DURING THE PROCESSION OF SOLEMN VESPERS
The one who is higher than the heavens, who is more glorious than the Cherubims and more precious than any creature, the one who, for her supereminent purity, has become the receptacle of the eternal essence, returns on this day her most holy soul in the hands of her Son; with it, the universe is filled with graces and, to us, is granted great mercy.
The Immaculate Virgin, the Mother of the object of the benevolence of the Father, the one whom God had predestined to be the habitacle of his inconfusible union, presents on this day, her soul to God her creator. The incorporeal Powers welcome it divinely; she is transferred to life, the one Who is truly the Mother of Life, the torch of inaccessible light, the salvation of believers and the hope of souls.
Yield, exquisite words, as to beatify the venerable Assumption of the Mother of God; she has presented her unstained soul in the hands of her Son. That is why the world is vivified by her holy Dormition that it celebrates in palms, hymns and spiritual odes, with the Incorporeals and the Apostles.
Sing, peoples, the Mother of God, sing her; for on this day she puts her luminous soul in the immaculate hands of the One who incarnated in her virginally. She never ceases to intercede with Him so that peace and great mercy may be granted to the universe.
When you were reunited with the One who was ineffably born of you, Mother of God and virgin, the most holy and venerable Angelic Powers, in awe upon the sight of this wonder and bent with respect, said to themselves: ''Open all your doors and welcome the one who brought to the world the creator of Heaven and earth; of our songs of glory, let us celebrate the august and holy body which contained for us the Lord invisible."
That is why, celebrating also your memory, we cry out: All worthy of praise, lift up the power of Christians and save our souls.
APOLYTIKION
In your motherhood, you have kept the virginity; during your Dormition, you have not abandoned the world, Mother of God: You have been transferred to the life, you who are the Mother of life and who, through your intercession, deliver our souls from death.
