  • Hi Hobbledehoy, thanks for putting up the scans of the St Andrew Missal.  I really want this same missal and same edition, can you tell me where I can find one?

Or if you want to sell me one, I am willing to pay.  I really want one like yours.

I like it how the vestment colours are shown in a box, love the pics too.

    You're quite welcome!

I do not have spare Missals to offer for sale at this moment, but you may find the edition from which I am scanning and uploading these pages on such sites as eBay, AbeBooks.com, and (above all) Amazon.com.

The important thing is to search for the following keywords in a title search: Andrew Missal Vespers. The publication date must range between 1956-1958, some published in 1958 and 1959 have an entirely different format and different illustrations, but I do recommend them nonetheless. Sometimes it helps to not have the search limited by publishing date, so that you may stumble upon a desired edition that was not properly listed. In this case, you must inquire for the precise publishing year before you purchase the tome in question.

If you wish for the beautiful Cramer woodcuts, you must ask the bookseller before ordering the tome.

    Hope these tips help!

    God bless!

  • From the tome Messale Ambrosiano (Milan: Pia Società S. Paolo, 1954), here is the Mass for the second Sunday after the Dedication, which this year corresponds to the twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost in the Roman Missal.

Sorry to bother you about this again, I am just really desperate for one.
    Thanks.

    Hello!

Not a bother at all: let's see here...

Neither of those seem to be the edition for which you are searching.

The first link is the popular version of the St. Andrew Missal that does not have all the texts in Latin-English, neither does it have Vespers. Now you know one hint: if it has a cover like that one, it is not the St. Andrew Missal from whence the scans are procured and presented here on CathInfo (and only on CathInfo).

The second link describes a tome that has too few pages for it to be the desired edition, for mine has about 1,800 pages, not counting the Supplement (for Great Britain) which brings up the page tally to 1,962. There is an euchological appendix (109 pages) containing the texts for the Sacraments, Benediction, Litanies, and other devotions and prayers, and a Kyriale (162 pages).

There are similar edition which have different Supplements (for the USA, Canada, various Religious Orders, &c.). The American and Canadian supplements I have are from a later and quite different edition of the St. Andrew Missal (1959), which has all that the edition containing the British supplement has except for: the Cramer woodcuts (replaced by other illustrations, which are aesthetically inferior to the beautiful woodcuts, but that is merely my opinion), the explanations (replaced by abbreviated ones that do not touch upon the Breviary Lessons but have a nice little Scriptural topical concordance which is quite excellent), and the English translation of the Collects and the Ordinary of the Mass (the "You-Your" English (which doesn't bother me at all, because the Latin text is there).

One benefit of these later editions of the St. Andrew Daily Missal with Vespers shall be seen this coming Sunday, when the twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost takes on the Collects and lessons from the Mass of the fifth Sunday after Epiphany. Much less page maneuvering, as shall be seen later this week.

Remember: only on CathInfo can you find the pages of the St. Andrew Missal and of various other rare tomes and commentaries that are out of print and rare nowadays. Why go anywhere else for your liturgical needs?
