Title: Traditional Third Order Options
Post by: The Mrs on February 17, 2016, 02:03:31 PM
I would like to become a tertiary, but the only traditional religious order that I know of (other than the SSPX) are the Dominicans.  While I have deep respect for this order, I don't think it's the right one for me, I'm thinking the Carmelite order would be a more appropriate choice for me.  However, I can't seem to find a traditional order, does anyone know of a traditional Carmelite order or some other traditional order?  Thanks in advance.

Mrs Johnson

I think I can help you with information on the Traditional Carmelite Third Order as I have been a member for 25 years now.

There are a number of tertiaries from various countries who support the Bishops and priests of the Resistance, and we keep in regular contact despite the distance.

hope to hear more from you,
yours sincerely,

Gail

Hola. Soy de Argentina y tengo conocidos que desean ser terciarios carmelitas descalzos. Necesitaria alguna dirección de correo electrónico de algún terciario de habla hispana para obtener la regla en castellano, como libros de espiritualidad carmelita en castellano. Gracias.

I know of people who are traditionalists who are part of the third of order of the Carmelite order. Of course you would have to be a member of a parish that is recognized by the Catholic Church.

I don't believe that the Carmelites are tied to the parish system, being a religious order.

I don't believe that the Carmelites are tied to the parish system, being a religious order.
The purpose of a third order is for the people to grow in the holiness of a particular religious community without taking the vows of  poverty chastity and obedience of that particular community, yet living the charism and holiness of the community itself. If you want to join the Carmelites tehn they require that you be a member in good standing of a Catholic parish.

Hola.

"Hi. Excuse me, but you do not need to be a member of any parish to be a tertiary. In normal times, the tertiaries would surely be in a parish or in the convent to which they are attached. They would form a Fraternity, but both the rule of the TOSF and that of the Carmelites, contemplates the possibility of being isolated tertiary. The TOSF rule takes into account those people who are far from a convent or monastery and want to be tertiary. The Carmelite rule allows to be tertiary without being a member of a fraternity. That is why there are tertiary Franciscans where the SSPX is and these tertiaries are isolated, except for some exceptions where there are several fraternities, such as France (500 TOSF members), Canada and the United States if I am not mistaken.

Pax et Bonum."

Seriously folks, if you don't speak Spanish then give it to the Google. The Google knows Spanish!

The older post by Hermit Urban on this thread said:

"Hi. I am from Argentina and I have acquaintances who wish to be barefoot Carmelite Tertiaries. I would need some e-mail address from a Spanish-speaking tertiary to obtain the rule in Castilian, like books of Carmelite spirituality in Castilian. Thank you."

Google is very co-operative sometimes!

I hope this helps you Hermit Urban!

If Hermit Urban can read the OP in English wouldn't it be much nicer if he translated his spanish on Google and posted it here once instead of everybody having to translate his posts?

About a year ago I heard of a Servite Father in Florida starting a traditional isolated (in your own home) tertiary order.
Servites are devoted to Our Mother of Sorrows.
If this is of interest I'll try to re-locate it.

Yes, do try to locate it. But don't re-locate it ::) because  we may not be able to find it again.

I use google translator to read, can you not do the same with my words? : Confused:

Well, Google Translator does not always work for the people I know. It often translates in a bad way.
If a person does not speak Spanish, and using Google Translator is difficult for them, they have no way of understanding what you say. I think that those people would have to just pass over your posts...

Thank you. I'm not interested in servitas. Just looking for some tertiary that has the rule of the Tertiary Carmelites in Spanish. I'll consult with Father Ruiz who is his chaplain if he can get it for me. Thank you.  ;D
