St. Alphonsus Maria de Ligurori is truly wonderful, I would suggest picking up any book of his, he has some splendid stuff for Lent.

I agree. Having a tome of spiritual value in hardcover--better yet, leather--is priceless. I've been looking for "Preparation for Death" by Saint Alphonsus de Liguori in the red hardcover by Benzinger for years now. I read it every Lent--but mine's a paperback. Perhaps I'll have it recovered in leather before it starts falling apart.

Yes, I would generally recommend it. Although I have to warn you that it's a little unnerving the first time reading it. I also read the Divine Comedy every year. I've spoken about this on numerous occasions. I found that if you start on Ash Wednesday reading one canto per day, you'll finish on Trinity Sunday (with three grace days). The easiest to read translation is the one by Mark Musa. :reading:

Also, I have a copy of the Divine Comedy in my Harvards Classics collection my Aunt gave me, but haven't read it yet. Sounds like a good plan!

My parents have the Harvard Classics which include the Divine Comedy. It's a very difficult translation to read and understand. Please consider Mark Musa's translation. It has great footnotes and the reading is smooth. You won't regret it. And copies on Amazon are very affordable.

I'll do that. I was visiting my sister and I got a copy today of The Life of St. Birgitta by the two Peters, her confessors. It's also got a long intro and the fourth and seventh books of her revelations. Not bad for 9 bucks! Also got Lives of The Saints, although it's the newer version for like 7.

St. Therese and St. Bridget have my little heart.
