  • Friends, I have read about men like Fr. Solanus Casey (a Capuchin priest simplex who has been credited with many miracles) and men like Fr. M.J. McGivney (the founder of the Knights of Columbus). These were certainly traditional Catholic priests who spent, at least in the case of Fr. McGivney, their entire lives in Tradition and never even encountered the Novus Ordo.

These two men have been suggested as saints. There are official causes that have been opened for both men. They have been opened, however, by Novus Ordo members.

I know that canonizations are not protected by the definition of infallibility, but does anyone have an opinion about what the standards for sainthood are since things were changed by Wojtyla the Ungreat? Can we at least imagine that these men lived lives that would have brought them such reputations that they would be considered potential saints of the Church?

I would just hate to think that the criteria for sainthood have degenerated so much that we couldn't even bother to look into the causes that are out there today.

Is is possible that these people whom the Novus Ordo are investigating could really have been saints whether there was a new, lax standard or not?

Let's discuss. I certainly liked what I read about both Fr. Casey and Fr. McGivney, although I am more likely to see Novus-friendly details in the life of Fr. Casey than in Fr. McGivney. I have read biographies of both men. The Fr. Casey book was written by a typically liberal NO 'Franciscan', and the Fr. McGivney book was written by a layperson who may not have even been Catholic; I don't recall him making any mention of it in his notes in the book.

Really looking forward to your opinions on these men and any others who might have causes out there right now.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar
