The Traditional Breviary and in memory of Laszlo Kiss
« on: July 13, 2022, 12:01:22 PM »
A few might remember Laszlo Kiss from another forum.  This is the anniversary month of his death, July 11, 2011.  He would have been 84 years old tomorrow, July 14.

He developed a website https://www.divinumofficium.com/ with the texts of the traditional breviaries, including the Tridentine 1570, the 1910 revisions of St. Pius X, the common Monastic usage and arrangement, and the various adaptations of the rubrics across the years.  There are also resources for those learning to recite the traditional breviary.  Vernacular translations are available in a variety of languages.

Awhile back someone here commented (I don't recall which thread) that "if" they had an obligation to recite the breviary they would "want to recite only the Tridentine version" (an approximate paraphrase).  My thought was that one does not require a canonical obligation to recite the breviary or parts of it, and there are many graces to be received for doing so.  Using the Divinum Officium site to compare the two, one easily recognizes the wisdom and purdence of Pope Saint Pius X's revisions.

Thanks for sharing this, I was unaware that this site existed.

I've been reciting the hours from the 7th edition of the Clear Creek Monastic Diurnal for close to three years now, which uses the 1962 rubrics.

I have been using Officium Divinum for years. I only recently found that it has the ability to change years for missal rubrics as well.
