  • I was wondering if anyone here engages in reciting this prayer at 6 and 12 during the day? I recently have begun doing this, and have had my wife start reciting at these times with my daughter. It is quite powerful! I puts me in the mindset of God throughout my day. I will attach the picture, The Angelus, by Jean-François Millet along with the English and Latin texts.

    Latin text
    V. Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariæ.
    R. Et concepit de Spiritu Sancto.
Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecuм. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.
    V. Ecce Ancilla Domini.
    R. Fiat mihi secundum Verbum tuum.
    Ave Maria...
    V. Et Verbum caro factum est.
    R. Et habitavit in nobis.
    Ave Maria...
    V. Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genetrix.
    R. Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.
    Oremus: Gratiam tuam quæsumus, Domine,
    mentibus nostris infunde;
    ut qui, angelo nuntiante,
    Christi Filii tui Incarnationem cognovimus,
    per passionem eius et crucem,
    ad resurrectionis gloriam perducamur.
Per eumdem Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
    [edit]English text
    V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
    R. And she conceived by the power of Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
    V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
    R. Be it done unto me according to your Word.
    Hail Mary...
    V. And the Word was made flesh.
    R. And dwelt among us.
    Hail Mary...
    V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
    R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, Your grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
    Glory be...

  • I do.  I usually am up by 6:00 AM and can do it then too.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • The Angelus is a wonderful family prayer! When our kids were home, we prayed it as a family and one of our sons and his family still pray it. Now it's just me & the old man but we do still pray it in the evenings, with added prayers for all the rest of 'em.
It's a real good way of teaching the kids about how our Blessed Mother was obedient. The reverence of the Angelus, properly said helps "civilize" the little ones and makes behaving at Mass much easier,  I think.
Family devotions and reverent rituals are more important than we realized when we were raising the kids. It's so good that you are doing this!
    God bless

  • The ringing of Church bells at the hours of the Angelus used to be totally commonplace. Now, with the Newvatican nonsense so rampant, you can be sure there are millions of so-called 'catholics' who don't even know what the Angelus is.

This isn't much to be thankful for, but at least the compromised Novus Ordites on EWTN broadcast some Capuchins saying the Angelus at noon (I never saw whether it was broadcast at 6AM or 6PM, so I can't tell). One less thing they've abandoned, I guess.

Anyway, I LOVE the Angelus, I LOVE its direct focus on the Incarnation and how that's the source of all the promises of Christ Our Lord.

Mary, ever-Virgin Mother of God, pray for us.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, have mercy on us.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

How about this food for thought: "Now, with the Newvatican nonsense so rampant," there are plenty of Trads who know the Angelus, and when to say it, but didn't realize the bells were ever rung at Churches...

Angelus bells are rung thrice daily in most churches in Vietnam.

There's an indulgence attached to those who pray the Angelus thrice daily at morning, noon, and evening.

  • The same here in Germany.

Bells are still rung for the Angelus, before Mass, at the double consecration, for weddings, at a Te Deum or when somebody died.

Oh, and every hour. And in many places every 15 minutes.
