  • Oh really?  If specifying parts of the Roman mass to be sung by the whole congregation is "not stating any details", then it is impossible to take anything you may say seriously.
It is beyond me that "traditionalists" still can't get the simplest of things right.  Throughout this thread and really throughout the whole site they still can't be bothered to capitalize Mass when referring to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  IT IS A PROPER NOUN ! not to mention the importance we place on that one word.
In the above quote the adjective is capitalized but not the noun.
Stanley is not the only one guilty.

If we keep chipping away at little things pretty soon the big things won't matter either.

  • From the OP article:

    Quote
A great chasm in the Church has opened up between traditional and progressivist Catholics on the issue of who is or who is not entitled to perform the visible and external rites of the Mass.

On one side of the yawning divide are those who uphold the traditional teaching that only the clergy have the right to enact liturgical functions. The laity, for their part, had no officially recognized active role in the proceedings; they participated spiritually in the Mass, without performing any of the rites, by joining their prayers and intentions with the actions of the priest at the altar.

And on the other side are those who believe that the received and accepted tradition of Catholic worship should be superseded by the new “theology of the liturgical assembly,” according to which it is the assembly at large that is corporately endowed with priestly power to perform the liturgy. For them, the Mass is the work of the People of God instead of the work of God for the people, performed at the altar of Sacrifice through the mediation of the priest in his ordained role as alter Christus.

Therein lies the root of the division between the traditional and progressivist positions which amount to two irreconcilable conceptions of the Mass and the Faith.

  • Born Of ʀɛʋօʟutιօn
    A Misconceived Liturgical Movement

    By Dr. Carol Byrne

    Available From Amazon

    Description:
This study provides evidence that the 20th-century Liturgical Movement, inaugurated in 1909 by the Belgian monk Dom Lambert Beauduin, was not of genuine Catholic inspiration but inhabited an altogether different dimension, one that served the “ecuмenical” preferences of a certain group of liturgists with radical ideas for reform. Their success in gaining the ear of Pope Pius XII was the precondition for that control-by-committee which would be the hallmark of all future developments in the liturgy. Many will be shocked to discover that these radical reformers were effectively given the power to dictate the reforms on the basis of their own views, which were rife with negative connotations against the traditional liturgy. Using “active participation” of the laity as their rallying cry, they spread the fiction that the faithful had been deprived for centuries of their right to take an active part in the liturgy, and that it was time for them to take back what they had been denied by a “dominant” clergy. By 1956, the stage was set for a paradigm shift in the role of the priest as the basis for a liturgical ʀɛʋօʟutιօn.

Every Catholic should read this book. Eye-opening! Outstanding docuмentation!
