Switch to the Angelus
« on: May 31, 2026, 12:14:48 PM »

Today, Trinity Sunday, we switch back to the Angelus.  It is to be prayed morning, noon, and evening in memory of the adorable mystery of the Incarnation.
It is prayed kneeling, except from Saturday noon and Sunday when it is prayed standing.

The Original version:  Taken from the 1857 Raccolta

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
And she conceived by the Holy Ghost.  Hail, Mary, etc

Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
Be it done unto me according to Thy
word, Hail, Mary, etc

And the Word was made Flesh,
And dwelt among us.  Hail, Mary, etc

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the
promises of Christ.

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord,
Thy grace into our souls: that we to
whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was
made know by the message of an angel,
may by His Passion and Cross, be brought
to the glory of His Resurrection.  Through
the same Christ our Lord.   Amen.

Thank you for sharing this!

We were trying to figure out when to stop the Regina Coeli and start the Angelus but everywhere we looked only said "After Pentecost" and we weren't sure if that meant the Octave of Pentecost or the day of Pentecost.  😅

I don't think you need to be a stickler about "heart" vs "soul". It's a matter of English translation. If you wanted to be most proper, you could say it in Latin. "mentibus" root "mens" meaning minds thoughts or intellect.

There's nothing wrong with local customs when speaking about minute details in prayers. I didn't know about the standing/kneeling established formerly by the pope, but I dont think God is going to frown on a Catholic saying the Angelus because they're not doing it exactly right. We're not in a religious community with established norms.
