  • Well, it turns out the car was not stolen, it was towed. At first my dad called and they said it was not towed, but he called again and they said that it was towed. Well that is a lot better than being stolen.

    But only a little cheaper!

    Glad they found it.

  • Yes. 200 dollars for the tow and 95 dollars to the city. Apparently my dad was blocking a driveway. He was only there for a couple of hours. And he said the driveway was full of snow so that it was impossible for the driveway to be used anyway. It seems messed up that you can tow away another person's car and make them pay three hundred dollars just because they are parked a few inches too close to your driveway.

  • That is too bad...

I would have thought that people would have been more understanding with the snow...

But, I guess they expect people to always carry a snow shovel and dig themselves a parking spot wherever they go.    :scratchchin:

What if an ambulance needed to access that driveway, snow or not?

We have laws for a reason:  this one is for access to private property.

Yeah so if a car is blocking like three inches of a five foot wide driveway which is covered with snow anyway so nobody was using it, you should have your car towed and have to pay three hundred dollars. If I was like that I could have cars towed every other day. Wouldn't that be a nice thing to do to people? We have laws for a reason. And that reason is not to help the public, but to enrich the state and the private entities like the towing company who collude with the state. Lets not kid ourselves and think those laws are for the public's benefit.

  • Tow companies are extortionists, and the law is complicit in their extortion.

I've been towed twice, and neither time was for negligence. Long stories. But the second time I didn't care because the car didn't work and we were moving. But I had to PAY THEM $150 to sign the title over to them. Checked and it was perfectly legal. Either PAY THEM to keep my car that DIDN'T WORK or rack up fines for them "storing it."

    It's a racket.

  • Blocking means denying access.
    3 inches doesn't deny access..which is it?.
Whether the driveway was full of snow is nobody's business but the home owner's.

You said your dad was there a couple of hours not just a few minutes to say run an erand.

Maybe the home owner was a senior who had paid to have the driveway ploughed but because your dad was there a couple of hours they just drove past and put the senior's job to the bottom of the list.

Maybe a nice thing to do was if your dad had shovelled the driveway for the person.

We have laws for a reason.

  • Blocking the driveway by a few inches. You're response seems to be an interrogation, I have no further desire to interact with you. Good bye.
