  • Prayer to Saint Raphael

O Raphael, lead us toward those we are waiting for, those who are
waiting for us: Raphael, Angel of happy meeting, lead us by the hand
toward those we are looking for. May all our movements be guided by
your Light and transfigured with your joy.

Angel, guide of Tobias, lay the request we now address to you at
the feet of Him on whole unveiled Face you are privileged to
gaze. Lonely and tired, crush by the separations and sorrows of life,
we feel the need of calling you and of pleading for the protection of
your wings, so that we may not be as strangers in the province of joy,
all ignorant of the concerns of our country. Remember the weak, you
who are strong, you whose home lies beyond the region of thunder, in a
land that is always peaceful, always serene and bright with the
    resplendent glory of God.

from the French of Ernest Hello

  • True story:

Some decades ago, a young traditional Catholic woman, who with the guidance of her spiritual director had discerned that she was called to marriage, prayed to St. Raphael the Archangel for a good Catholic husband who would establish a good Christian household based on the profession and practice of the Catholic faith as it had been professed and practiced for nearly two thousand years. She vows unto the celestial Prince that if her prayer is granted, her first-born son will bear his name.

She meets a young traditional Catholic man who is seeking a young lady to court. As she is courted by him, he increases her prayers and acts of penance.

As their courtship is about to enter the stage of betrothal, they discuss (as couples often do) what names they shall give their children.

"I think I would name my son Raphael," said the man.

"Oh," the girl replied in astonishment. "Why that particular name?"

"It was my grandfather's name," he said, "and he gave me so many counsels and examples of how to be a good Catholic man. So, I am going to name my son after him. What do you think?"

"I think it's a wonderful idea!" replied the girl, smiling to herself, making acts of adoration and humility at the wondrous elegance of Divine Providence and the great efficacy of St. Raphael's tutelage. For the girl then knew this man was the husband to whom she would be betrothed and wedded in Sacred Matrimony. A son was born to them after they married and he was named Raphael.

So, if you are a man looking to court a Catholic lady, or a lady looking for a good Catholic suitor, do not hesitate to have recourse to St. Raphael the Archangel.
