  • Satan is not stronger than we are.

Poor fighters of life, take courage again! For he is an asylum where Satan does not penetrate, a citadel he can not take in spite of us: it is our will.

Whatever may be the seductions of Satan, would they have penetrated all the fibers of the lower part of our soul; It seems to us that all the thoughts and feelings of hell are within us, and that our will only suffers them, provided it does not say: I accept all this; I consent to all this - our soul is triumphant and hell is defeated: for what is sin is consent and not temptation.

The victory over demons is always possible to man; For, as St. Paul says, "God will not allow us to be tempted beyond our strength" -that is to say, the forces that the soul will receive from heaven, We can do nothing.

True, my God, you will always lend your strength to the soul that struggles to protect in it the BLOOD of your Son; Always you will make it triumphant of the enemies who want to make trample to this divine BLOOD. You only place one condition on this aid: it is that one implores it with fervor. So we entreat you, O my God, to teach us to pray in this effective way that makes you come to our help in the hour of temptation and makes us victorious.

And you, holy angels, indefatigable wrestlers, intrepid soldiers of the celestial militia, come under the guidance of St. Michael, your leader, come, at the hour of the struggle, to plunder and put to flight all our spiritual enemies.

  • he Angels of the Christian Mothers.

"The power of the angels is such," says St. Thomas Aquinas, "that the last of them commands Lucifer himself and obeys him."

Saint John saw an Angel coming down from heaven, who had the key of the abyss and a long chain in his hand. He took the dragon and chained it; Then threw him into the abyss, which he closed and sealed upon him.

That is why infernal powers can never harm the man who invokes the holy angels with confidence, the latter being responsible for protecting and defending him.

Christian parents, fathers and mothers, help your children when they can not help themselves; And that your piety, your prayers, your good works are a protection against hell.

O holy angels, this is how you have guarded and protected my body and soul from the moment I entered life. If from the womb of my mother I have passed through the bosom of the holy Church by the water of baptismal regeneration; If I have purified myself from my first defilements in the blood of the Lamb, it is to your protection that I owe it ... Thank you, holy angels, for all you have done for me until today. Deign to continue your assistance to me during the whole course of my life; and when the dawn of my last day dawns I will conjure you by legions to watch over my last moments to make me victorious against all assaults Of hell and to keep my soul for eternal life.

    So be it.

  • Novena in honor of the holy Angels.

(FOR THE ONLY GLORY OF GOD)

Tomorrow (Louis's note: September 20) begins the NEUVAINE in honor of St Michael the Archangel, the head of the heavenly militia.

This word NEUVAINE, which is so commonly used, is perhaps not as generally known as to its origin.

The word NEUVAINE (nine days) was born of devotion to the Nine choirs of the Angels, and it is this devotion which presided over the institution of these excellent practices of piety spread among the faithful and recognized for being so great efficiency.

The NEUVAINE we place here is highly recommended. It can be done in preparation for the feast of the Holy Guardian Angel. In that case, it should start on 23 September. Those who do not intend to do this Novena will be able to recite for this nineteenth day only one or the other of the following prayers:

    GENERAL INTENTIONS OF THE NEUVAINE

Contrition for past sins. - Recognition for favors received. - New graces to be obtained. Above all, the reign and glory of God.

    PRAYER OF THE NEUVAINE

9 Pater, 9 Ave, 9 Gloria Patri, in honor of the nine Choruses of the Angels, or the following prayer: or the Angelic Rosary (to be continued)

Saint Michael, Saint Raphael, Saint Gabriel, Guardian Angel, all of you Angels, Archangels, Thrones, Dominions, Principalities, Powers, Virtues, Cherubims and Seraphims, get me the grace I need from the Holy Trinity the); I conjure you by the BLOOD, the passion and death of Jesus, to whose merits you owe your eternal happiness.

    So be it.

Mary Immaculate, Queen of the Angels, pray for us who have recourse to you. So be it.

On the fifth day of the novena, receive Holy Communion in honor of the POWERS.

"I have seen," says the pious Boudon, "the marvels of grace obtained by such novenas: persons delivered from the most terrible temptations, the machinations of hell ruined and destroyed, & c.

  • he Angelic Crown.

    WHERE THE
    CHAPEL OF SAINT MICHEL

This devotion owes its origin to the following circumstance:

Saint Michael appeared in 1751 to an illustrious servant of God, Antonia d'Astonac, a Carmelite in Portugal. He declared to him that he wished to compose, in his honor, nine salutations corresponding to the nine choirs of the angels. They should each consist in the recitation of a Pater and three Ave in honor of the three angelic hierarchies; Then of four Pater, the first in his honor, the second in honor of St. Gabriel, the third of St. Raphael, and the last in the Guardian Angel. In compensation, the glorious prince of the heavenly court promised that: Whosoever would render this worship to him, on going to the holy table, would have a procession of nine angels chosen from each of the nine choirs. Moreover, for the daily recitation of these nine salutations, he promised his continual assistance and that of the holy angels throughout the course of life, and, after death, the deliverance of purgatory for himself and his parents. This is what is found in the Life of the Saint, book ΙI chapter 14 °.

  • Formula of the Crown.

One begins by doing, as perfectly as possible, an act of Contrition; Then, kneeling before the image of the holy Archangel, if possible, the following salutations are recited:

    V. O God, come to my aid.
    R. Hasten, O Lord, to help me. Glory be to the Father, & c.

    SALUTATION PREMIERE

To the chorus of the Seraphim.

A Pater and three Ave.-Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial chorus of the Seraphim, let the Lord make us worthy to burn flames of perfect charity. So be it.

  • September is the month of St Michael because his feast day occurs on the 29th of that month.  Back in the good ol' days it was a Holy Day of Obligation.  But then this guy we know as Pius X decided that, for some obscure reason, ST Michael, St Joseph, Sts Peter and Paul, St John the Baptist, and some others were not really that important so they were demoted because modern man "needs more time to work and tend crops".  Really, I'm not making this up.  Liberalism was alive and well in the Catholic Church at the Vatican long before "Good Pope John" came to town.  More seriously, St Michael has a supernatural role in heaven, as he was not created the greatest of the angels but became God's greatest defender in Heaven.  His name means "quid ut Deus?" ("who is like unto God?").  Some theologians (and this author) believe St Michael was the angel that appeared to the three Fatima children prior to the major apparitions of Our Lady.
In late September, the focus of the liturgical year shifts from the pastoral life of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the revelation of His divinity to eschatology- the contemplation of the last things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, Hell.  That is why October is the month of the Holy Angels and the Rosary, and November the month of the Holy Souls.
(There is so much more to the liturgical year than Christmas and Easter.  My wish is that people would say "bah, humbug" to national and bank holidays and rediscover Catholic heritage.  Make Sept 29th a big deal.  Take off work and fire up the grill.)

Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for us, you are our only hope.

Rather that taking off work and firing up the grill, how about taking off work and going to Holy Mass.
