    • Tomorrow Bishop Fellay will consecrate St Marys new church and we'll get to see the finished product.  Couldn't find the crucifix.  No altar throne.  Don't like it :facepalm:

    • This is my idea of a free standing altar.  You can walk behind it and it has cupboards in the back for storing candelabra, candles, vases, votives etc.  It was my home church
    The red around Mother's heart with seven swords is caused by the setting sun shining through a stained glass window on Sept 15 at 7PM her feast of 7 Sorrows.  This happen for several years until an apartment building was built blocking the setting sun.  Click on the picture for a closer look.

    I don't like it either. They had the opportunity and as it appears, enough money, to build the most beautiful traditional altar we've seen built in many years. The artwork all over the interiors is beautiful with lots of detail so I was expecting something else as the altar, like the beautiful and detailed altar you attached as an example.

    What church is this?  Was it designed that way by the architects to have this visual effect on September 15 at 7 PM?

    • No altar cross until the altar has been consecrated. This new altar lacks any verticailty for visual balance. It needs a baldachino.

    This is Our Lady of Sorrows church built in 1857 in my city in southern Ontario Canada.  It's built in the shape of a cross and has five altars.  Architects couldn't have designed the church to have this happen every Sept 15 for five years at 7 PM and at no other time (people watched on the 14th & 16th) and have the red glow only touch our Lady's heart and no other part of the altar.  Also during those five years it was seen there would have been at least one leap year which should have thrown the date off.  The sun was coming through one small piece of stained glass, maybe 3 inches,  from the St. Michael's round window.  It was only noticed because a new older priest came and restarted celebrating the feast of the Patroness of the church at night.  It could have been occurring for years when no one was there.

    • My impression is that they got everything right, except that which matters most (which is a curious area to come up short in, and Fr. Rutledge's "listen to the whole thing before you judge" video suggests they knew in advance this deficiency would be detected by some).

    This, then, begs the question:

    Why did they do it anyway?

    • I hope the candle sticks they put on the altar tomorrow are gold, not like the one for the Easter candle at the left side of the altar.  If they duplicate that one it will look awful.  But everything would match.
