    What an awesome collection of books!
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.
    (In Memoriam A. H. H., 27.13-17 Alfred, Lord Tennyson)

  • Any old woman can love God better than a doctor of theology can.

    St. Bonaventure
    I'll drink to that!
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Love Mary! She is lovable, faithful, constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her. She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you, embraces you and consoles and serves you. She will even be at hand to accompany you on the trip to eternity.
    - St. Gabriel Possenti

  • Great thread, Emile. Thanks for it.

    St. Francis de Sales: "The sum of all spiritual exercises, (is) the most holy, sacred, and Sovereign Sacrifice and Sacrament of the Eucharist, the very center of our Christian religion, the heart of all devotion, the soul of piety; that Ineffable Mystery which embraces the whole depth of Divine Love, by which God, giving himself really to us, conveys all his graces and favors to men with royal magnificence … Prayer made in union with this Divine Sacrifice has untold power…"

    I appreciate the focus on Our Lady. There was never a saint, as far as I know, who didn't have a strong devotion to Our Lady.

    Indeed, as you say, she will console, and strengthen and relieve. There never was and never will be another one like her.
    "It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

    ~St. Robert Bellarmine
    De Romano Pontifice, Lib.II, c.29

  • St. Leonard of Port Maurice: "Take my advice, and in every Mass ask God to make you a great saint. Does this seem too much? It is not too much. Is it not our good Master who proclaims in the Gospel that, for a cup of cold water given out of love of him, he will, in return, give paradise? How, then, while offering to God the blood of his most blessed Son, should he not give you a hundred heavens, were there so many?"

  • What does love look like?
    It has the hands to help others.
    It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy.
    It has eyes to see misery and want.
    It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.
    That is what love looks like.
    -St. Augustine
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.

  • In times of desolation, God conceals Himself from us so that we can discover for ourselves what we are without Him.
    -St. Margaret of Cortona

    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.

  • I will attempt day by day to break my will into pieces. I want to do God’s Holy Will, not my own!
    -St. Gabriel of our Lady of Sorrows
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.

  • St. Padre Pio: ✝ In all the free time you have, once you have finished your duties of state, you should kneel down and pray the Rosary. Pray the Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament or before a crucifix.

    ✝ Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God’s heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart.
    ✝ Let us bind ourselves tightly to the Sorrowful Heart of our Heavenly Mother and reflect on its boundless grief and how precious is our soul.

  • Mary means Star of the sea, for as mariners are guided to port by the ocean star, so Christians attain to glory through Mary's maternal intercession.
    –St. Thomas Aquinas
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.

  • A Christian is not his own master, since all his time belongs to God.

  • Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing.
    -St. Therese of Lisieux
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.

  • All love that takes not its beginning from Our Saviour's Passion is frivolous and dangerous. Unhappy is death without the love of the Saviour, unhappy is love without the death of the Saviour! Love and death are so mingled in the Passion of Our Saviour that we cannot have the one in our heart without the other. Upon Calvary one cannot have life without love, nor love without the death of Our Redeemer.
    -St. Francis DeSales
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.
