Do not grieve over the temptations you suffer. When the Lord intends to bestow a particular virtue on us, He often permits us first to be tempted by the opposite vice. Therefore, look upon every temptation as an invitation to grow in a particular virtue and a promise by God that you will be successful, if only you stand fast.
–Saint Philip Neri (1515-1595)
Do you dread trials? They are indispensably necessary for your admission to heaven. The willing acceptance of them will make them sweet. You do not appreciate the all-powerful operation of grace, and the wondrous changes which it brings to pass in the mind and heart. Yield yourself up to it, and have no uneasiness concerning your own infirmity. You will be weak only so far as you rely on yourself; but if you place your whole confidence in God, you will be able to say with S. Paul : "I can do all things through Christ Which strengtheneth me."
Sufferings are the richest presents that Divine Majesty bestows on you.
We must not serve God for the sake of His consolations, but because He is worthy of being served. God usually deprives His servants, for a time, of all consolation, that they may learn to serve Him through pure love, and become truly faithful servants. He deprives them of spiritual delights, even on the most solemn occasions, to test their faith and fidelity.
You have some lovely quotes here Emile.Thank you Shin. I was just looking at the website that you linked above:
Any old woman can love God better than a doctor of theology can.I'll drink to that!
St. Bonaventure
Love Mary! She is lovable, faithful, constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her. She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you, embraces you and consoles and serves you. She will even be at hand to accompany you on the trip to eternity.
- St. Gabriel Possenti
I'll drink to that!Ha ha....I was thinking of you when I read that! :laugh1:
"Pray to soften heartened hearts, to open darkened minds.“ -Charbel Makhlouf (post-Vatican II saint, but an incredibly holy man nonetheless)
They accidentally get some of these right, like Charbel and Padre Pio ... but even a broken clock is right twice a day.Definitely. Charbel, Padre Pio, all of the Venerables, Blesseds, and Servants of God from pre V2 they canonized like Martin de Porres, as well as others like the Eastern Catholics they've canonized, Fr. Damien, and Solanus Casey are all legitimately saintly people.
Most Padre Pio quotes are fake.
If nobody ever said it before, just say that Padre Pio did.
Augustine was also pro prostitution...wow..these guys really laid down the law...They must have had reasons. One obvious reason I can think of is that if prostitution is easily available, the evil men will sleep with the prostitutes and most of the women will not be pressured to become sluts. But if prostitution is not an option, the evil men will corrupt the women and the women will become sluts. So with prostitution fewer people fall into sins of fornication.

If we are too excited, it is better to remain silent. In the heat of passion it seems right to say everything that comes to the tongue; but when anger has subsided we find we have committed as many faults as we have spoken words.I need to put this advice into practice more often.

"Avoid ... games." - St. Leonard of Port Maurice
:confused:Idk what is meant by that either. Gambling perhaps? I don't see how recreation would be a sinful waste of our time

Some saints were stricter than others about that kind of thing. I recall the story of one saint who was playing some game during a recreation period who was asked what he would do if he were told that he'd die within the hour. He responded that he would keep playing the game. That saint was so completely united to the will of God that even his playing of the game was an act of submitting to God's will.I remember reading that St. Peter Damian condemned chess since he didn't know much about it and thought it was gambling
Never trust a dog to watch your food.lol. Or my water bottle.

Pope St. Leo the Great (400-461)Cajetan wasn't canonized.
"He that sees another in error, and endeavors not to correct it, testifies himself to be in error."
Pope St. Felix III (†492)
"Not to oppose error, is to approve it, and not to defend truth is to suppress it, and indeed to neglect to confound evil men, when we can do it, is no less a sin than to encourage them."
Pope St. Pius V (1504-1572)
"All the evils of the world are due to lukewarm Catholics."
Pope Innocent III
"Not to oppose erroneous Doctrine is to approve of it, and not to defend at all true Doctrine is to suppress it."
St. Athanasius
"God has promised to be like a wall of fire round those who rightly believe in Him."
"Catholics who remain faithful to tradition even if they are reduced to but a handful, they are the True Church of Jesus Christ."
"May God console you!...What saddens you...is the fact that others have occupied the churches by violence, while during this time you are on the outside. It is a fact that they have the premises, but you have the Apostolic Faith. They can occupy our churches, but they are outside the true Faith. You remain outside the places of worship, but the Faith dwells within you. Let us consider: What is more important, the place or the Faith? The true Faith, obviously. Who has lost and who has won in this struggle? The one who keeps the premises or the one who keeps the Faith?"
St. Ambrose (340-397)
"Even heretics appear to possess Christ, for none of them denies the name of Christ. Still, anyone who does not confess everything that pertains to Christ does in fact deny Christ."
St. Thomas Cajetan, O.P. (1469-1534)
Theologian and Cardinal
He points out that the famous axiom "Ubi Petrus, ibi Ecclesia" (Where the Pope is, there is also the Church) holds true only when the Pope acts and behaves as the Pope, because Peter "is subject to the duties of the Office" otherwise, "neither is the Church in him, nor is he in the Church."
Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824)
"The Church is the only one, the Roman Catholic! And if there were left upon earth but one Catholic, he would be the one, universal Church, the Catholic Church, the Church of Jesus Christ against which the gates of Hell shall never prevail."
Cajetan wasn't canonized.Sorry I wasn't aware, is there any way to delete?
Also, although Anne Emmerich is likely a real saint the writings handed down to us of her visions are wholly kabbalistic and heretical. Best to avoid quoting her supposed words.

St. Alphonsus Rodriguez (1617)
After his wife and child passed away, he applied to enter the society of Jesus, but was denied due to lack of education and bad health. He was finally admitted as a lay-brother and served as doorkeeper. He guided St. Peter Claver into his mission.
"In the difficulties which are placed before me, why should I not act like a donkey? When one speaks ill of him, he says nothing. When he is mistreated, he says nothing. When he is forgotten, he says nothing. The servant of God must do likewise." - St Alphonsus Rodriguez
