  • A Requiem Mass is offered in France on January 21st for King Louis XVI
This date marks the anniversary of his execution by guillotine on January 21, 1793, at the Place de la Révolution (now Place de la Concorde) in Paris during the French Revolution.
Key details regarding this annual observance:
    • Location: The Mass is traditionally held at churches in Paris, such as Saint-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile.
    • Significance: It is held for the repose of the soul of the former King.
    • Tradition: These Masses, often attended by French royalist groups and Catholics, commemorate him as a martyr who pardoned his executioners.
    • History: The first major anniversary Mass was held on January 21, 1815, during the Bourbon Restoration, when Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette's remains were re-buried in the Basilica of Saint-Denis.

  • This Mass was offered today, Jan 21 AD 2026 at Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet Church in Paris France by the SSPX.

The history of this beautiful ancient church and how it came into the possession of the SSPX is very interesting/inspiring to the resistance.

The transformation today of the high altar and sanctuary for this Requiem Mass is so reminiscent of true Catholic tradition.
As usual black vestments are used but even the window and background of the high altar are covered in black ...as is the front of the altar...and even the red carpet on the floor of the sanctuary.

This is how we pray for our dead.
