  • From the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle to the Nativity of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ one may begin a special prayer, simply called the "Christmas Prayer" to obtain favors if one's requests are in accordance with God's will. It is believed that whoever recites the following prayer with a pious heart 15 times a day from November 30th to December 25th, will obtain whatever is asked.

                                                     Saint Andrew Christmas Novena

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires (mention your intentions here), through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen

"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

I think this was invented by someone in the Novus Ordo. I find no evidence that this was a traditional prayer.

Unfortunately, that's not surprising. To me, it is one of the most beautiful prayers I know.
This is the original prayer wording that bears the Imprimater of + Michael Augustine, Archbishop of New York/ Feb 6th, 1897

  • Novena to St. Andrew

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

(It is piously believed that whoever recites the above prayer fifteen times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (30th November) until Christmas will obtain what is asked.)

     Imprimatur
     † Michael Augustine,
    Archbishop of New York
     New York, February 6, 1897

  • The chapel I attended for 10 years still uses this verse on the cover of their special Christmas bulletin every year.  It prompts a unique meditation; thus, I'm happy to learn it is a novena prayer.  Thank you Stubborn and Director.

Thank your for posting this, dear Stubborn.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.
