I knew a priest very well(may he rest in peace) ordained in the 40's for Boston, at St John's, and he relayed that there was no sign of the practice of the unnatural vice there at the time. Just seeming effeminate was enough to get sent away, never mind those promoting moral perversion.
Also, Fr John Joseph Sullivan, ordained in the late 30's, having attended St Bernard's seminary in Rochester, the Rock as it was called, conveyed pretty much the same. You can read about him at christorchaos.com June 8, 2011
While not being asked in this post, understand, traditionally, Concerning seminary and religious orders, a person applying or who is studying or discerning, if the superiors believe you do not have a vocation, strictly speaking, they are not obliged to give you the reason why they believe you do not fit in.
Mind you, they may, but are not required. That might sound difficult to some, but, objectively speaking, the Church wants as much surety as human judgment can supply, and turn away some that, at least from can be observed, could be questionable, is in order. They can still save their souls as laymen, even if they were overlooked too lightly.
