What does this symbol mean? I've seen it in the online version of the Divine Office.

It is called the Cross of Lorraine, or the patriarchal cross, also known as the Crusader's Cross.

I think it represents the crucifixion of Christ.

I think it represents the crucifixion of Christ.

I was unsure myself but looking at it closer it does just look like the Cross and the upper crossbar is the sign above Christ's head.

So what are we to do when we see it written? A regular cross is used when we are to sign ourselves, what would someone be expected to do when they see this one?

The crossbeam at the bottom represents the crossbeam that held Christ's arms and the crossbeam at the top represents the announcement of the reason for the sentence, "Jesus King of the Jєωs - INRI"
