Title: Pre V2 Eastern Canons
Post by: Cryptinox on April 14, 2024, 06:37:48 PM
Does anyone know where I may find the canons of the Oriental Churches that were in place before V2?

Prior to the 1990 Eastern Code, the Eastern Catholic Churches were governed by the historic sacred canons confirmed by the Second Council of Nicea II as well as by local custom and tomos (τόμος) just like the Eastern Orthodox Churches. The East has always resisted codification of canons, and the introduction of the 1990 Code for the Eastern Catholic Churches is very novel.

Were they bound by the 1917 code or only to those parts that reflected Divine Law?

Only the parts that by nature bind the oriental.

It seems Pius XII and Leo XIII approved of some canons. I'd like to read the ones in AAS.
