Praying for the Pope's intentions, not really

  • So many are confused about the necessity of praying for the Pope's intentions to gain indulgences.
We are not praying for the current Pope's private or public intentions.

Holy Mother Church set the intentions of the Pope and they do NOT  change from one Pontificate to another.
    The intentions are:

    1.  the exaltation of Holy Mother Church
    2.  the extirpation of heresies
    3.  the propagation of the Faith
    4.  the conversion of sinners
    5.  concord between Christian princes

    Thank God for tradition!

  • Yes, so next time you have an opportunity to attend a Mass offered by a sedevacantist believing priest do not fear for instead of inserting the name of a heretical "pope" he can still pray for the proper intention that a True pope would have.

Never fear the Holy Ghost is near.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Right, and thanks, but how does this...

This is taken from 1910 Edition of the Raccolta...

PRAYER ACCORDING TO THE POPES INTENTION
    23. The Pope’s intention always includes the following objects:
    i. The progress of the Faith and triumph of the Church.
ii. Peace and union among Christian Princes and Rulers.
    iii. The conversion of sinners.
    iv. The uprooting of heresy.
These intentions may be fittingly recalled and prayed for after Communion, or at the visit; but a general
intention of praying according to the mind of the Pope is sufficient ; and any prayers may be used which
are not already of obligation, e.g., the Little Hours of a priests Office. (July 12, 1847; May 29, 1841.)

... address this (all ital. mine)

So many are confused about the necessity of praying for the Pope's intentions to gain indulgences.

    5.  concord between Christian princes

Add: Highly suspect Trojan-horsing of "Sedeoccupationism" here.

Hopefully some relevant questions re: "Raccolta":
    1. Why there?
    1. Which, if any, others is it in?
     1. Which, if any, are pre/post to that given?
    2. What is meant by the Pope in the example given? Is this Categorical, particular, or what?

Oh, the questions don't have to be for you; I'm just making sure that more than two are "tracking".

The above was taken from this week's SSPX bulletin which I assume was taken directly from the very first Raccolta printed in English in 1858 page 461 under Summary of Indulgences which reads:
"for the extirpation of heresies and schisms,
for the propagation of the Catholic faith,
for peace and concord amongst Christian princes,
and for the other necessities of Holy Church."

I posted this in hopes of helping anyone uncomfortable about praying for the Pope.

    >> Why?

    again

    >> ?

and please stop calling me Ma'am.

    >> What, then, should I call you? If you've never married, or bore children, then "miss" would be appropriate; however, I was under the impression that this isn't the case.... you?

  • At the end of the rosary I just pray for the Pope and I let the Holy Spirit decide on how should go.

What if the intentions of Pope St. Pius X are the same as Pope Francis?
