  • Taken from the Layman's Ritual 1944

Devotions for the Last Day of the Year.

" In a spirit of repentance for our faults and offences
of the year the antiphon "Parce Domine" and the psalm "Miserere"
are sung before the Blessed Sacrament, and to thank God for His
graces and protection the hymn "Te Deum is chanted. "
    ( indulgenced  1933)

    Parce Domine
Pardon, Lord, pardon Thy people;  be not angry with them forever.  (twice)

    Miserere  (Psalm #50)

    Te Deum

Before Vat II these prayers would be prayed just before midnight on the 31st
    of January.

Then just after 12 A.M. before Midnight Mass the" Veni Creator Spiritus "
    would be sung.
"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered: and them that hate Him flee from before His Holy Face"  Psalm 67:2[/b]
