Title: Prayers for safe delivery
Post by: Matthew on February 12, 2021, 10:32:03 AM
MaterDominici will be going in for a scheduled C-section at 12:00 CST.

Prayers requested for a safe delivery.

They are prepping her right now.

We anticipate another girl, and her name is picked out: Colette Noel.

Will keep you posted.

P.s. I hope I don't go postal about this mask wearing covid nonsense. This really is the belly of the beast when it comes to the scamdemic.

They just wheeled her into the OR. I'm not going in, as I almost passed out last time I tried that.

No updates yet. Nurse said another half hour. Also, they would have told me by now if something bad had happened. So that's a relief.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and messages!

Mother and baby are still doing well, but they've both had a big day, and the big event was only about 6 hours ago as I write this.

But at least there were no major problems, and for that Deo Gratias!

Colette has some minor breathing issues, so they have her on a CPAP machine of sorts to HELP with her breathing. The doctor made it clear that she was breathing and crying on her own (so it's not to be confused with a ventilator) but this machine provides a bit of help with breathing. He expects it to take 1-2 days to rectify on its own, and they'll wean her from the CPAP machine. She's in good hands though, getting all the care she needs.

We're about to have an arctic winter weather event here in South-Central Texas, so we're going to have 3" of snow on Sunday, followed by 2 days when it won't get above 32 degrees. That is *extremely* rare, though it's too soon to declare records smashed until it actually happens. But I mention this because it could affect mother and baby's discharge date from the hospital. Fortunately I can drive in snow and ice -- but that doesn't mean all the other drivers on the road with me can ;) So instead of wrecking my own car, other vehicles will careen out of control into MINE and cause an accident all the same.

If 1/2 of what is predicted comes to pass, this arctic event is going to be huge. I mean permanent damage is going to be done -- many trees around here aren't meant to be planted in Illinois or Minnesota. Palm Trees for example are only hardy to 10 degrees. There are going to be a lot of empty spaces in many yards in a month... And that's to say nothing of burst pipes. Monday is supposed to be high of 26 low of 5. The coldest I've seen in Texas, in my 16.5 years here, is about 22. And even that was rare.

It's not all future tense though. It's already 31 "feels like 25" and yesterday was just as cold. But keep in mind we've had lots of 70's and 80's already this year -- January was quite warm and mild.

We packed baby clothes accordingly, for the trip home from the hospital.

As an Illinois native, I know why you're chuckling.

We got 1" of snow in Dec. 2017
A dusting of snow in Feb. 2011
I can't remember if we got any snow from 2004-2011.

That's the kind of snow we get in THIS part of Texas.

The forecast storm is going to shatter record lows and everything. It's probably a once-in-100-years level of storm.

It's not just the 3" that's impressive for South Texas.  It's the fact that it's likely to STICK AROUND for TWO WHOLE DAYS. See, even when we get snow it usually melts the next afternoon, as it almost never stays below freezing for a whole day. That's our weather.

People are panic buying here, BTW. I saw a line of 70+ people (all wearing masks UGH) outside the local H-E-B (dominant grocery store chain around here). I think it was due to COVID restrictions. Talk about a 1-2 punch. Social engineering experiment AND a 100-year storm, both happening at once. And 2021 is only 2 months old! Buckle up, folks!

All the Arctic air we got from Siberia is making its way down to The Lone Star state at last I see. We had below minus 40 here. But I know that much snow that far south is a very dicey thing.

I just caught a blurb on The Weather Chanel about what's hitting Texas, talk about over doing it, the headline read: "Unsurvivable cold oozing into Texas"

I know they're just doing their part to make a bad situation as bad as possible, but man!

This is probably a dumb question but, do you guys in the southern half of TX have a furnace or some type of stove for heat in your house?

We have a heat pump with regular "resistance heat" for backup. At these temperatures, the efficiency of a heat pump goes down the toilet, and you have to engage "backup" or "emergency" heat, which is basically a resistance element that turns electricity directly into heat. About the least efficient way of heating your home.

That's the only form of heat I have in my small office building here (where I'm typing this). It works well, but it's not the cheapest form of heat.

But the short version is, both of our living buildings (homes?) have central heat/AC.  Our chapel, on the other hand, only has A/C. It's a metal building on a nice concrete slab. The only heat the chapel has is a single small propane heater. Fortunately for us, the next Mass in 7 days away, and it will be back in the high 70's by then. We'll probably be running the A/C that day! I joke you not.

This weather is insane.

My wife said the last time we got more than 3" of snow was in 1984.

I’m sure they’re blaming it on global warming.

A little late but congratulations on the newborn, keep her warm in the love of Jesus and Mary.  Forget the snow it will all melt away.
