  • This post is being written by a sinful fool. It took my health to take a turn for the worse in order for me to wake up.
Since a "conversion" I had years ago, which I thought made me born-again, I have been church jumping; attending Novus Ordo churches and living like a Lutheran; I have attended Eastern Orthodox churches, Anglican, and Lutheran churches and took the Eucharist at each one. I want to come home! I need to make a good and thorough lifetime confession [though I have no idea of how to really] and truly receive Jesus in the Eucharist the right way. I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I appreciate any prayers. It appears I have calcium in my aortic valve. I also need to know where I can go and find a truly traditional priest and make a confession. God Bless you for any responses.

I'm not familiar with Scottdale area, but perhaps others could chime in with suggestions.

  • I looked on the map, and this SSPX chapel is located outside of Prescott, in Dewey (which Mapquest puts 1 hour 24 minute car ride from Scottsdale).

    Mission Santa Maria
    12028 Turquoise Cir.
    Dewey, AZ  86327
    (928) 772-5081
    Sunday Mass: 3:00 PM

No idea who the priest is, but if you are not able to make the 90 minute drive, he might be willing to receive you into the Church, hear your confession, and give you Holy Communion (If you are not already Catholic, or just the latter two if you are).

Normally, if not Catholic, they would want to test you beforehand, but it sounds like you have some knowledge already, and not sure if this is dispensed in emergencies.

    Two questions:

    1) Have you already been baptized in a Catholic Church?

    2) Have you ever made confession to a Catholic priest?

Asking, because if you are a wayward Catholic, then all tat would normally be necessary to resume your duties would be to make a good confession.

  • Yes and yes.
I was baptized in 1957. I made my first confession in 1964 and received First Holy Communion. Before Vatican II.

Well that will really help speed things up!

Do things how you wish, but if I were in your shoes, I would call the priest and make an appointment for confession.

Just leave him a voicemail, saying you haven't been to confession in X years, wantto get back in graces with God and Church, and would like to make an appointment for a general confession.

He will most likely agree, and simply wait for you inside the confessional at the appointed time/date.

    Please keep us posted!!!

I would suggest the CMRI chapel in Phoenix, here is the information:

Queen of the Holy Rosary Church
    2533 W. Myrtle, Phoenix, AZ 85051
    Fr. Ephrem Cordova, (602) 244-8765, fax 267-0813, m.cordova@juno.com
    CMRI, SU 9 am, TU-SA 11:30 am

The SSPX has a chapel there too:

    Our Lady of Sorrows Church
    750 E. Baseline Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85040
    Frs. M. Stafki, Robinson, Crane, Hufford, Scott, (602) 268-7673, fax 276-9609 NSSPX, SU 7 & 10 am, M 11:15 am, TU-F 7:15 am, 1st F 6:30 am, SA 8 am

I always check to see if the clergy at an SSPX chapel are validly ordained before I go there. As I said above, I would highly suggest the CMRI first.

    God bless you!

If I were in that situation, I would make a weekday appointment for a general confession with Fr. Pons at Our Lady of Sorrows in South Phoenix. He has a thick French accent, but his English is fluent, nuanced, and very understandable. He is a wise priest, an insightful confessor, and has a Christ-like love of his flock.

Meanwhile I will offer up my health problems and my prayers for you.

Regard all of my posts as unfounded slander, heresy, theologically specious etc
I accept Church teaching on Implicit Baptism of Desire.
    Francis is Pope.
    NO is a good Mass.

Wherever you go, I encourage you to stay away from Fr. Pfeiffer, etc al, including Fr  Marshall Roberts, who works clandestinely with Fr. Pfeiffer in Portales, NM.  I think he says mass in AZ, too.

Sean, the priests from Our Lady of Sorrows in Phoenix rotate through the Dewey Mission.

Our Lady of Sorrows is 20-40 minutes from South and North Scottsdale respectively.
