Please pray for my Grandmother Helen. She is very old. She has not been eating and they think she may be dying. She is a Byzantine Rite Catholic. She will receive Extreme Unction (I don't know what they call it in the Eastern Rites) from a Byzantine Rite priest soon, but because of her condition she will not be able to make a confession. She is almost a hundred years old. So pray that she dies in a state of grace.

I have to thank of all people, the USCCB. My grandmother can no longer eat on her own and my family was contemplating letting her starve to death without giving her a feeding tube. Their priest said it was okay and only I objected. I found a letter from the USCCB which said in such cases they should let her have a feeding tube and not just let her die. I could not give them a letter from an SSPX priest because I am the only traditional Catholic in my family, but this letter from the Bishops my family is supposed to be following was good and I showed it to my family. I do not know if they will give my grandmother a feeding tube and the decision is not mine, but now my family knows that if they do not give her a feeding tube they are disobeying the teachings of their Bishops and that their priest was wrong. So please pray for the souls of my grandmother and my family.

I am going to see my grandmother again today. With no food, she will certainly die soon.

She is dying. She cannot eat. They are letting her starve to death even though I objected. I just hope she is prepared to die.

Would a stomach tube cost so much that it would put someone into serious debt? As well you have to consider her age in regard to the stomach tube remedy. Reasonably, how long will it stretch out life? I think that some consideration would be appropriate if you need to buy time for conversion, then do it, within reason.

Have you ever heard of the three prayers to say at the deathbed of a dying person? (I think that they can be found in the Pieta Book.)
At any rate... I will definitely be praying...

The word was feeding tube, not stomach tube. It's not a matter of cost, nor is it medical treatment "to stretch out her life". My understanding is that a simple drip would suffice to keep one hydrated. Death by dehydration is known to be particularly distressing. It is simple common sense and decency that a hospital should treat the patient with the respect to which a human being is due.
Catholics need to know these things before the event, so as to be prepared.

Tonight is the wake. Tomorrow is the funeral, though it is not a Mass. I do not know the name they call it.

This morning we are going to the Panikhida. and then to the cemetery, followed by lunch.

It is over now. Thank you all for your prayers.
