    Quote
Hi. My name is Paul. I have a swollen prostate. I have a catheter in me. It has to be changed every three months (not fun). This has been going on for 8 months, since Jan 2022. The doctor says it is difficult to change it and I will need surgery.

The preferred surgery is HoLEP, which will cost $36,100 or more. I do not have health insurance, because I am unemployed and cannot afford it.

The less preferred surgery is TURP, which will cost about $10,000. If donations do not allow the HoLEP, I will get the TURP surgery.

I changed my diet in Jan 2022 to vegan, with the exception of fish. However, my prostate has not improved and is still swollen, after 8 months on this diet.

The medication for this is only a temporary fix (if it works), but has side effects which can be permanent. I am very sensitive to most medications, so the only long term solution is surgery.

I am 74 and not well. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. I will pray for everyone who donates.

For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

  • Besides medicare, he can get a supplemental policy for about $120.00 monthly that should cover anything medicare doesn't. It starts immediately the first of the following month of payment.  He can also cancel that anytime he likes.

  • If he’s 74 he should be eligible for medicare.
Yes!  I think you hit it on the nail!  I have a sister-in-law whose birth fees are almost completely covered by Medicare.  Yet, we have insurance and get almost no be benefits in comparison.  😅

Anyone know Paul personally who can mention this to him?

    Definitely praying!  🙏🙏🙏

  • Right, I don't understand how he has "no health insurance".  You're eligible for Medicare at 65.  Perhaps Medicare would not pay for the more expensive surgery, but I think that needs to be clarified.  Why isn't he on Medicare?  Is he one of those who refuses out of principle?  If so, then it's wrong for him to try to get people to make donations to pay for it.  If it's determined that Medicare will only pay for the cheaper procedure (which, from what I read, has all kinds of issues with it), I'd be happy to donate some to make up the difference, but I might not be inclined to make a donation if he's one of these types who refuses out of some misguided principles to accept Medicare.  Or perhaps he's ineligible for some other reason that we are not privy to.  I knew of one guy who was perpetually unemployed because he refused to get a Social Security number, considering it some mark of the beast, or something like that ... and so his family was constantly on the edge of starvation as a result, and people always had to make donations to help them out.  So he's willing to accept handouts from people who did have jobs because they got social security numbers?

  • Some comments on Medicare, as at age 71 it is my primary health insurance.

Medicare Part A is the hospitalization part.  It also provides short term care in a rehabilitation or convalescent care facility.  There is no additional premium but there is a $1,556 deductible per benefit period.  Everyone is supposed to sign up for this at age 65.  Again, there is no cost to do so, if you have been paying into the Social Security program.

Medicare Part B is the non-hospital health care part.  It has a premium, currently $170.10 per month. It is a traditional $233 deductible / 20% co-pay plan.  It is optional but if someone declines to purchase it at age 65, unless they are covered by another medical plan, they may pay a penalty if they want to sign up later.  I was still working at age 65 and covered by an employer provided plan (with a premium co-pay).  I signed up for Part A but declined Part B after providing proof of other insurance.  When I left that job a year later I signed up for Part B, with no penalty.

The original Medicare does not cover any prescription drug costs (I presume that might include cancer chemo-therapy but I don’t know).  Today there also are Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage), Part D (prescription drug coverage) and Medigap policies one can buy.  These are purchased in the marketplace rather than from Medicare.  I purchase a retiree policy through my previous employer that covers some of the things that Medicare Parts A & B don’t, including drugs.  I pay nearly $5,000 per year for Part B and my Medicare supplement plan and have never exceeded the deductible, so have never received a benefit (other than for antibiotics following oral surgery once).  I am grateful that I am healthy and don’t need medical care or drugs, but I’m going to look at lower cost options when my annual enrollment for the supplement policy occurs in November.

So, even if Mr. Mann has the no premium cost original Medicare Part A, and even if he is paying the premium for Medicare Part B (no drug coverage from either), with a 20% co-pay plus drugs he could still be facing some large costs.  It would be helpful if the family could clarify this rather than just saying “no health insurance”.

Another option could be Medicaid, which can provide health care to low income persons.  While its funding is partially “part of” the Medicare system Medicaid is administered by each individual state and requirements and services provided vary 50 different ways.

  • Crowdfund Recommendation: The Chap Who Runs the INVALUABLE Bible Website DRBO.org has Cancer and is Uninsured | Barnhardt
I saw Barnhardt's post but didn't include it in the OP because Paul's own brief contains no mention of cancer. Whether Ann knows that he indeed does have cancer or whether it's just an erroneous assumption that she took as fact, I don't know.

Well ... unfortunately, despite his dedication to reproducing the Sacred Scriptures, his attitude toward them is nothing short of Modernist.  He promoted heliocentrism (which even modern science rejects) and made statements to the effect that Sacred Scripture's reference to the term "firmament" means "nothing to [him]".  It's that latter part that really caused me to raise my eyebrows.  It's one thing to say, "Well, this is what I understand firmement to mean." ... and quite another to say that it "means nothing to me".  I will still offer prayers and potentially even make a donation, but I do think that some clarity is needed about how he has "no insurance" when there's Medicare and Medicaid available.

Yes, and it's also possible that the Medicare would not pay for the more expensive procedure.
