I ask you to pray for me that I will give up smoking before something bad happens to me like a stroke or heart attack. I must give up smoking, and tomorrow I will go to school and bring no tobacco ( promise). I will throw out my tobacco and lighter today, and will try to replace the habit with hail mary's for the conversion of those who have ears to hear, but who do not go to mass.

Have you tried chewing?

I'm not advocating tobacco use for someone who isn't already using it, but as a former smoker who needed to stop because of some serious clinical respiratory problems, I "switched" to chew.

Depending on where you live, it might even be cheaper. There are still health risks, of course.

thanks mith, that has given me an idea: I will buy chewing gum.
I must give up smoking because my heart has begun to pain me recently, especially when i smoke.
Chewing gum and prayer is the answer.

Don't indulge the desire or yearning, kill that the moment it starts as best you can, through immediate short prayers. If you let it linger voluntarily it'll likely be too much.

If it lingers involuntarily at least you're praying and mitigating it.

I know several people who swear by using the patch. It steps you down slowly so you don't have the cravings and gives you time to develop new habits.

I think by "chew" he meant chewing tobacco. But gum is probably healthier.

I took a look at the tea I posted about above and was surprised it didn't contain lobelia. Lobelia acts on the same receptors in the brain as nicotine, and is used in other programs to quit smoking. One thing is for sure that this vice will battle the flesh more violently than others. I would recommend using some type of natural means to help.
