He was not "operating" anything, but was listed as "in residence" at Fort Wayne ... which, unless a priest can no longer function due to age or health, generally means that they're not completely on board somehow.

Pastor: Fr. Dominic Savoie, FSSP – frsavoie@outlook.com

Parochial Vicar: Fr. Edward Brodsky, FSSP

In Residence: Fr. Carlos Casavantes, FSSP

Thanks for this helpful explanation.

Thanks for this helpful explanation.

So, I don't know the details of Father's overall relationship with FSSP.  I was just responding to someone who said that Father had been "operating" the chapel in Fort Wayne.

So, after the dust settled, Father Carlos Casavantes will be taking over as a resident priest, and Father Carley had made the arrangement directly with him, since he figured the Board would have a difficult time working that out.

Now, there are some agitators at the chapel demanding "proof" that Father Casavantes had been conditionally ordained, and evidently the inquiries Father Carley made, as well as my own testimony, and that of a couple others doesn't satisfy them.  SSPX never issued "certificates" for conditionals, but I know from all the way back in the Summer of 1990 that Father Casavantes had been conditionally ordained in 1989 by Bishop Williamson, one of the first after his consecration.  I also have similar testimony from another individual who was a seminarian at the same time I was.  But since my info is second hand, from others I consider trustworthy, the agitators aren't accepting that.  90% of those there find Father Casavantes' word, that of Father Carley, myself, and the other seminarian, to be trustworthy.
Thanks Lad.

Well Deo Gratias they have a priest who hopefully shows up soon, and for the agitators - tell them to just ask him directly if he was conditionally ordained. I have never understood why trads hesitate or don't ask when the priest himself expects it and welcomes it. I've asked many priests about their ordinations and all were happy, even eager to answer.Sometimes the priest will even talk about it from the pulpit. But no one, particularly in the day and age, should be the least bit hesitant about asking.

The issue of conditional ordination is itself a strange anomaly in the fall-out from Vatican II.

In the past, sacraments have generally been conferred sub conditione because something would surface that would through into question the validity of a sacrament that had assumed to have been valid. That original sacrament continued to be assumed valid in the public forum, thus conditional administration of the sacrament ensured that validity and was generally done quietly and secretly.

The questionable validity of the 1968 episcopal rite of consecration throws into turmoil the whole question of Roman rite ordinations derived from bishops consecrated in that form. So, whereas in the past, one assumed that validity of clergy, now doubt has entered publicly. Instead of ensuring validity for a sacrament publicly believed to be valid yet doubt had arisen ex post facto for serious reason, now one questions a priori the validity of 1968-derived Orders. Instead of quietly ensuring validity, conditional ordination now becomes a public matter. Very strange situation compared to past ages!!!

The word "operating" seems to have struck a nerve for some reason. What I heard was just second hand information from someone in the area that periodically went to him. I literally have no idea.
