We ask for prayers for H.E. Bishop Tissier de Mallerais.

On the morning of Saturday 28 September, after the Angelus, he fell on the stairs of the seminary in Ecône and lost consciousness. He is currently in hospital.

He suffered a fractured skull accompanied by internal haemorrhaging, but his condition has stabilised.  He is gradually coming out of the induced coma in which he had been placed, and his prognosis is no longer life-threatening.

Although still unable to communicate, he is responding quite encouragingly to medical requests.  Further tests are under way to determine the extent of the damage. Hospital staff are optimistic, but his condition remains serious, and the consequences of the trauma uncertain.
We thank all the faithful for their prayers for this intention.

Unfortunately, the news about Bishop Tissier de Mallerais is not good.

His Lordship has still not regained consciousness, and this is worrying, as it is now five days since the doctors stopped the sedatives.
The evolution of the situation is in the hands of Divine Providence.
Prayers are needed more than ever.

This is very sad and concerning. Bishop Tissier is an intellectual powerhouse, for decades one of the Society’s most important minds.

He was so instrumental during the 1980’s that Archbishop Lefebvre referred to Bishop Tissier as his “guardian angel.”

I have met the Bishop over the years. He is a gentle, kind, man who visibly radiates sanctity and piety.

He has been frail for many years, I remember attending an ordination some years ago and he had to recite some of the Canon sitting down due to weakness. There is always famously a can of Coca Cola hidden behind the altar when he says Mass in case he needs a spike in his blood sugar.

So many souls are indebted to His Excellency in many ways.

There is a report from Ecône that his condition is much worse than expected and that he may not live through the week. From Twitter: https://x.com/JulianDFink/status/1843016247358972161 (https://x.com/JulianDFink/status/1843016247358972161)

If you don't have Twitter/X, it reads as follows: ""Prayer request — Monseigneur Tissier de Mallerais is dying (announced today from the pulpit in Ecône). The rector of the seminary said that he [the bishop] is expected to die in a few days. We ask for your prayers! Fr. Helmut Trutt SSPX (Munich)" [10/06, 8:16pm CEST/2:16pm EST]". So breaking as of this afternoon.

Update (https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2024/10/bishop-tissier-de-mallerais-prayers-for.html?m=1) on His Eminence.
Remembering His Excellency’s words from 2012:

“The Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) has never left the Church,” said Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais. “It is in the heart of the Church. There where the authentic preaching of the faith is, there is the Church. This project of 'officialization' of the SSPX leaves me indifferent.”

“We have no need of it, and the Church has no need of it,” he continued. “We are already on the pinnacle, as a sign of contradiction, that attracts those noble souls, that attract lots of young priests, despite our pariah status. One would wish to place our lamp under the bushel for our integration in the conciliar world. This status that is proposed to us, of a personal prelature, analogous to that of Opus Dei, is a status for a state of peace. But we are currently in a state of war in the Church. It would be a contradiction to wish to ‘regularize the war.’ The irregularity is not ours. It is that of Rome. A Modernist Rome. A Liberal Rome that has renounced Christ the King. A Rome that had been condemned in advance by all Popes up until the eve of the [Second Vatican] Council …”

I am thinking, as I hear this news of all the many souls that Bishop Tissier has baptized, confirmed, and ordained over his decades as a servant in Our Lord’s vineyard. His words in 2012 undoubtedly played a role in preventing the SSPX from signing an accord with Modernist Rome. His Excellency’s efforts will live on also in his biography of Archbishop Lefebvre which is a timeless treasure. Thank you, your Excellency, for all of your beautiful work. The trailblazers of tradition are slowly passing on. May we be found faithful enough to carry on the fight against the conciliar apostasy.

Yes, it does look like the Requiem/Memorial Mass for Bp. Tissier was in Chile. I assume that the coffin was empty? According to a communication from Angelus Press, the funeral Mass will be held at Econe on Oct. 18th.

Yeah... it'd be empty...

It's what is called having the body "morally present" and is used when there is no body (as in the case of a plane crash or other disappearance where a body cannot be present).

To tackle the biography of Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais is to retrace, in a few lines, the entire history of the Society of Saint Pius X, of which he was both an active participant and a privileged witness, since the beginning.
We owe him immense gratitude for having transmitted, through his magnificent biography of Archbishop Lefebvre and his countless conferences to seminarians, priests and the faithful, the knowledge and love of our venerable founder, and the work he established, through which radiated his profound love for the Roman Catholic Church, the faith, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the priesthood and Christ the King.

I was confirmed by Tissier about 10 years ago. I'll always remember when he pulled my arm to stand next to him for a group photo. I have no idea why he did that, but it was a special day. I also think it's pretty cool that he said in 2016-"now, dear faithful, this prayer, this rite of transmitting the power to forgive sin, has simply been removed from the new rite of ordination. There is no longer any question of it. So, this new rite of ordination is not Catholic."

That's interesting, too bad the modern SSPX has compromised on this.

Thank you for sharing!  I really think Bishop Tissier may have been one of the reasons the SSPX never fully capitulated with the new ordinations...

That's interesting, too bad the modern SSPX has compromised on this.
I know & their "bod" nonsense.  They are down to 2 bishops now. They are going to wipe themselves out soon if they don't consecrate more bishops. They're afraid to upset their pope. When the last 2 die, they will just have their priests left. Sad that future people won't get the sacrament of confirmation.

Thank you for sharing!  I really think Bishop Tissier may have been one of the reasons the SSPX never fully capitulated with the new ordinations...

You're welcome. He confirmed 4 of my siblings also.

It seems that Bishop Tissier was highly respected even by many who didn't agree with him on everything.  Here below are a couple quotes and a link to an interview Bishop Tissier had with the people from the True Restoration website:

"His courtesy and gentleness struck a chord, especially as I had just watched him celebrate Mass in one of the most precise and holy ways I had ever seen."

"These are some of the strongest words I have ever seen from a bishop of the Society of St. Pius X."

It's scary that the SSPX aren't consecrating any more bishops! Maybe the SSPX will die out because God is punishing them because they hold that people in false religions can be saved.    https://x.com/LiaEleven/status/1538192865217499136

The CMRI priests are already in trouble on their judgment day for refusing us (who don't hold "bod") the sacraments. Fr. Palma will allow the past popes who held water baptism, which they call "feeneyism" holy communion, because they are saints but not us.

I wonder if 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 has to do with the Latin Mass is the restrainer and it's taken out of the way, then the wicked one will be revealed, which is the antichrist.

I wonder, whether Bishop Williamson plans to attend Bishop Tissier’s funeral at Econe on Friday. They were, after all, brother Bishops.

Do they?  I've heard of CMRI priests asking Feeneyites to keep their opinions to themselves, but not denying Holy Communion.  SSPV would certainly refuse Communion to those who don't believe in BoD.  And this Fr. Palma sounds like a sedeprivationists, and the CMRI oppose the CT.

I think he should.  If he showed up, I wonder how he'd be received by the neo-SSPX.  Would he be allowed in choir and show proper respect or else treated as if he were some kind of non-Catholic?

This is false. The CMRI will administer the sacraments to both Sedeplenists and Feeneyites but prefers those who hold to those opinions do not try and preach them among the congregation.

I’m afraid +Bp. W. won’t be welcomed at +Bp. Tissier’s funeral.  Maybe if sneaks in late and ducks out early.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already been uninvited by Fr. Pagliarani and +Bp. Fellay.

To the ongoing debates re: Who accepts people with Stands X, Y, or Z for Communion...
My solution is to just show up for Mass if I’m not at my usual chapel, ie. traveling.  I’ve never once been refused any Sacrament or been interrogated. I may or may not agree 100% on an issue that awaits a Magisterial ruling, but the Church permits disagreement regardless of this or that group or priest.  I do draw the line at no novus ordo!

I remember a very funny picture of the 2012 ordinations in Econe (or some such event - it was a first big priestly event after he was in the doghouse - maybe 2009?), where someone photoshopped Bp. Williamson into the group of priests, but somehow disguised.  I wish I had a copy, because it looked so funny.
In spite of that amusing picture, it is sad that what you say is probably true, at least that he'd not be welcome. :(

Well, from what I know, it's only the SSPV that are known to refuse Sacraments for various reason (Feeneyism, going to a CMRI Mass, etc.)  I was told a story by one of The Nine about then-Father Kelly refusing the Last Sacraments to a dying "Feeneyite".  Of course, they had no issues with Bishop Mendez' housekeeper/secretary, Natalie White, who was an open "Feeneyite" ... because they didn't want to alienate her (needed her to get access to the bishop).  I think they generally ask that new people talk to the priest before receiving the Sacraments there, but most Traditional priests are far too busy to interrogate everyone showing up before giving them Holy Communion.  I think that if someone show up at the rail and gives the appearances of being devout in receiving Holy Communion, they typically just give them Holy Communion.  In fact, I believe Canon Law stipulate that they must unless there's public knowledge of an individual's unworthiness to receive the Sacraments.
