  • There is no reason to be excited about this even if it happens.  It is simply the last phase of the revolution.  The New Order firmly in place, it seeks to link to itself the Mass of Tradition in order to dupe the many unsuspecting, but well-intentioned, traditionalists who are uncomfortable with "disobedience" into becoming adherents of the false modernistic religion.  Of course the New Mass had to come first, and only then the "freeing" of the old.  If the TLM had been "freed" all along, the revolution would have had no opportunity to insinuate itself in the minds and souls of Catholics.

  • Even if it is a trick, we still have the SSPX, or also any of the priests still fighting the revolution.

  • So all that's gonna happen is that we'll have alot more indult attenders?  Or does it mean something else?

Are priests now allowed to refuse to do a Novus Ordo?

  • I believe the late Fr. Carl Pulvermacher, S.S.P.X. said that they will allow the Latin Mass when they have no more validl priests.
It makes me sad to think that they would dirty the Society by lying down with wolves. Is it at all even remotely possible that Pope Benedict wants Fellay and the rest on board so that he has some real soldiers to help him fight the evil that has taken over the Church? I keep trying to find reasons to give Benedict the benefit of the doubt.

And, should this occur, where does that leave my heroes Bishops Richard Williamson and Bishop Tissier-Mallerais?

  • The SSPX would LOVE to have the crisis over.

Unfortunately, we cannot rush that -- it will happen in God's time. When Rome decides to cast off Modernism and return to Tradition, the "problem" of the SSPX will disappear like magic.

The SSPX is not in schism, so we consider Benedict XVI the pope. We also consider the Catholic Church as still visibly existing -- though each parish is in various states of dissolution/destruction/etc. Each individual layman, priest, bishop, etc. is in various states of having the Faith/losing the Faith/lost the Faith. It's a mess. The Novus Ordo has nothing specifically Catholic, so it suits todays' "modern" Catholics. It is all man-centered, all about "community", not about worshipping God. That's what is wrong with it.

It doesn't have to be intrinsically invalid -- it only has to be tending to the destruction of the Faith in Catholics -- and we can see the evidence of that now! We no longer have to trust a few wise Bishops -- we can see the evidence for ourselves! Look at the drop-off in vocations to the religious life/priesthood -- look at the drop in Mass attendance, and how many Catholics deny basic dogmas! THAT is the fruit of the Novus Ordo.

  • As for "Where does this leave my favorite SSPX bishops?"

There will still be PLENTY of people who want the whole Catholic Faith AS WELL AS the traditional Latin Mass (TLM).

I not only want the traditional Mass and Sacraments, but I want good Catholic sermons, and no compromise with Modernism. The SSPX will be as necessary in 1 year (well after the new Indult is promulgated) as it was 10 years ago.

The Indult is good on the way "up" -- as one discovers tradition -- but it's a bad stop on the way "down" -- after one has discovered the SSPX and the fulness of Tradition.

Most Indult places I've seen, read, or heard about are more or less trying to recreate the cosy warmth of 1950's parish life. The problem is, 1950 was only 12 years before Vatican II! So the rot was already there; Vatican II only brought it to the surface and concentrated it.

The 50's were not that great. In the SSPX we learn about all the errors of the modern world, which brought us to this mess. We need to solve the basic problems (rejection of Christ the King, religious liberty, liberalism, modernism, rationalism, etc.) before we can hope to cure the symptoms we see all around us.

The only good thing about the upcoming Indult -- if it indeed does any good (if any priests take advantage of it) -- is that it will make that many more TLM's available. That will bring down many more graces, which we could really use.

It might be a baby step, but it's nowhere near the end of the Crisis in the Church.

    In Christ,

    Matthew

  • You'd think so -- but I'm sure some of them will fear their local bishop, even when said bishop has NO LEG TO STAND ON with regard to "forbidding" the TLM.

Sadly, it is not.  He is the one driving the bus off the cliff, and he simply wants to sucker as many as he can to get on board.

  • I know worldwide the number of priests has actually increased in the Church, but what would compensate for that growth outside of the U.S. and much of Europe? Are most priests outside the U.S. and Europe actually genuine in keeping with the Catholic faith, or is there another factor involved? :jumping2:

  • That's an interesting question.

Of course, not being well-travelled, I am not fit to answer it.

But I do know that the error of Modernism has spread through the whole world, and that the morals of Europe are worse than the USA.

  • From what I understand the statistics comparing today to preconcilliar Catholicism don't look good.

Here in America. we're only converting 10% the amount of people we were before the council.

The number of religious has taken a nosedive since the council, diocese are running out of money and the Vatican is running regular deficits.

  • I know there's a (rather expensive) book called "leading Catholic indicators" full of such stats.

The 50 (?) page book is around $17.99, I believe. Kind of steep.

I think I looked for such statistics online, and couldn't find any. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, or in the right places.
