  • A friend who goes to this chapel called me today.

The young man was working in his father's business to eventually take it over. He was out cleaning gutters and was running a generator in his truck, hence the carbon monoxide. He was accidentally in the truck too long for something.

A loss of a child will be hard on the family, but this seems especially sad.

Thanks Stanley, I heard something like this but thought I would wait till I got the whole story to post, this one might well be it, at the moment there are a few different variations of this story out there.

We've had a lot of power outages around here due to storms the last week or so, which explains the generator.

Pray for him and the family.

And I only have the one source so I could be a bit off.
I did omit some other details that I found questionable.

This is pretty much the same story Fr. told me as we were walking into the chapel this morning before Mass. Mark went into the truck to use the generator that's inside the truck to charge his cell phone, normally this generator is used all the time out in the field for their power tools. They figure that the fumes must have been so strong that it pretty much knocked him out right away and the parents didn't realize he was gone so long until the morning.

He was only 17 years old, would have been 18 years old on Dec 1st and was the oldest of 10 children.

Very sad. I know I would not handle it too well. I pray for Mark and his family.
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?
