My condolences lad. I have learned in 40 years it is so much easier to let go when someone loves God. That said it hits different when it is your mother. Stay strong brother! ☦️
I can't imagine what death would be like for someone who did not believe in God ... it would have to be terrifying. But my Mother was very happy and looking forward to seeing God, Our Lord, and Our Lady. In the last 9-10 years, she had a great deal of time, and spent most of it praying ... a great grace for her. For those of us who have faith, once we get past Purgatory, what awaits us there cannot be described in human language (per St. Paul). Think of the most amazing vacation you could ever have, and it goes on forever ... and no more pain, sorrow, limitations, etc. You can go anywhere you want at the speed of thought in God's creation, you can know any and every language, everything that ever happened in human history, all human knowledge, and then of course all that pales in comparison to seeing God as He is, face to face. Some people think that eternity is "boring" because you just "sit" there looking at God. While that is in fact our chief pre-occupation, the immortal human soul is in fact elastic and will expand with love and knowledge for all eternity. That's why finite things cannot satisfy human beings. Even if you had millions of dollars and bought this huge mansion, after a certain period of time, after the initial wonder, as you get to know everything about it, it will in fact start to get boring. That's why these rich people have dozens of homes and cars, etc. When you buy a new car, it might be amazing, but after a while, once it's become familiar, it's boring. That's because the soul is designed to expand and to be elastic and we're only happy when we're growing in knowledge, constantly increasing, and there's so much to know about and in God that we will literally never get to a point where we know everything about Him, and so this joy of new learning will go on forever. Even those mansions Our Lord spoke of that God was preparing, just like the qualities of the risen body, I'm certain that those mansions will not be static in any way, but will be infinitely reconfigurable and rebuildable, so that it'll always be new, interesting, and amazing. You'll never get bored living there.
She had made her First Saturdays, First Fridays, many times, and was enrolled in and died wearing the scapular. Our Lady does not break her promises. Of course, we do believe in Purgatory, but at least that shall pass eventually, and God has given us so many means through His Son's as applied by the Church, to help with that. I was able to make the make the Stations of the Cross for her and meet the conditions for a plenary. When Father Onourah was taking requests for Gregorian Masses, I asked for two, and instead of asking for them to be offered for any specific soul, I asked that he offer 30 days in a row each time for the intentions of Our Blessed Mother, since I offer all my merits, etc. to Our Lady (including the Stations of the Cross above ... which I intend to do again tomorrow, and as often as I can get to Mass). I actually enjoy making the Stations every time I am able to go to Mass, Sunday, weekdays, whatever ... and I will go to Confession every other week to make sure that any I do in between will have a Confession count toward those usual conditions. In any case, as St. Louis de Montfort explains, when we give our merits and the value of our good works to Our Lady, she stores them up. So I asked her, if it pleases her, to apply some of the graces of those Masses now to my Mother. I like offering Masses for her intentions because ... we know that the value of and graces availble from the Mass are infinite and are only "throttled", as it were, by our own unworthiness, lack of faith, etc. But Our Lady can make use of all of it and is not limited. With a single Mass, the entire world could be converted.
I can't recommend the Stations enough, and there are some great aspects about it. Firstly, I think people are put off because they think it would take 30 minutes, where you'd follow the typical booklet from St. Alphonsus. Well, there's actually no requirement for the Stations other than to move from Station to Station meditating upon each one. There isn't a need to even say an Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, nor to use any kind of formula. In fact, I always prefer to just do meditations, even when I have more time. So, if I'm in a hurry for some reason, where I have to be somewhere, I can do them, relatively devoutly, in about 5-7 minutes. When I have more time, I take longer. Now, I do get there either really early or stay late until after the church clears out, since I don't want to get in people's way as they go up and down the aisles, but the Stations actually stipulate that you should move from Station to Station ... unless some logistical reasons prevent it, whether it's your physical condition, or a priest is doing it in a group, or there are just too many people of obstructions. Next to the Holy Rosary, there's no other devotion from which I have benefitted more. Here's the other thing about the Stations ... after Montini gutted the Indulgences, there were in fact a handful of things he retained by which one can receive a plenary indulgence, and one of them were the Stations. So, whether you're a sedevacantist or not, the Stations are good to go for receiving the plenary indulgence from the Church.
