An update. This is a very funny story, actually. I have an online friend who lives in Maryland. She has a daughter who lives in Indiana. The daughter knows some priests in Northern KY. So the daughter contacted them. They are not that far away, but they said it was too far from them. So they sent her to a priest who is a new priest in my old novus ordo parish, which has the daily Tridentine Mass. So this priest calls me, and tells me he is willing to do the traditional rite of Extreme Unction which he does know. He is going to pick me up and go to the hospital this afternoon. That was the quickest option. The priest seems personally devout but with a tendency to think higher ups should resolve V II and we should just concentrate on being holy. So I am not planning to go back to my old parish, but it was the speediest solution. And I will get to see Tom. My endurance has been so depleted by 7 months of inadequate sleep with fibromyalgia, that taking the handicapped van would be exhausting. I have been trying to rest up for when he, hopefully, comes home. With the fibromyalgia, it will probably take 6 months before I am myself again, if I can continue to get adequate rest.
As far as Tom's condition. His bladder is still quite distended and vulnerable to perforation, so they have not yet done a colonoscopy. His potassium levels are still quite low, even on IV potassium. The chronic diarrhea and distended colon ruined his ability to absorb potassium from his foods, even though I was giving him potassium rich foods for the last couple of years. The low potassium brought on tachycardia, but they used beta blockers to slow his heart rate to acceptable range. He got a blood infection from a UTI, and is on antibiotic for that, as well as antibiotic for his foot wounds. They have not been able to address his bladder tumors and may or may not be able to do so.
Since his co-pays for specialists went above our ability to pay, he has not been able to have a bladder cystoscopy or tumors removed, so we have no idea whether this crop is benign or malignant. He has previously had only stage one tumors, recurring for the last 13 years. If they have progressed to stage 2, it requires a urostomy and removal of the prostate. If it is stage 3, malignant...
By the way, before this latest assault of ailments, Tom asked to suffer for Frs Pfeiffer and Hewko and Pablo. I did too but I did not get very much suffering compared to Tom. But hopefully, even my pittance will help a tiny bit.
Thank you all so much for your prayer. If you would pray for one additional need, I would be so thankful. Tomorrow, I have a phone interview with Jobs and Family Disservices to get Tom on the Medicaid Waiver Program, so he can get adequate medical care. Initially, the social worker from the agency that sends his wound care nurse was supposed to come and listen in on speaker phone, so nothing false can be claimed as happened with my own last Medicaid Waiver recertification. But the social worker can not come, because Tom is not in the home. So I have to do this alone. Please pray that it goes well. If it does not, there is no way for Tom to get medical care. Thank you very much. God bless all of you.
