We're praying the novena to Our Lady of Good Success right now. Few positive things about his condition right now. He's was showing in the first day that he was uncomfortable (which is really good). When the neurologist came in, he tested some things. His pupils are responding to light (which is also good), he is responding to pain, he no longer needs blood pressure medication to keep his pressure regular, and he is breathing partially on his own (these are all positive things.) The doctor did say that the EEG did show "some" brain damage, but didn't tell us where in the brain, or to what extent. That first day, the doctor put his fingers close together and said that he had "this much" of a chance to live. That is increasing by the day.
You can tell when he's awake. His eyes appeared to be involuntarily moving upwards towards the top of his head on the first day. When I was up there yesterday with my husband, we prayed the Rosary next to him. I was kneeling beside him, and he was looking at me. I smiled and commented to my husband that he was focusing on me. We continued to pray, and my sister and my mom entered the room. I made the comment that he was looking at me, and he heard my mom. He looked as if he were trying to talk, and his heart rate increased to the point the machine was beeping. We consoled him and told him that he couldn't talk and that he really needed to calm down. We all continued to pray the rosary together and he calmed again. My sister then put a picture of Our Lady of Good Success in his eyeshot, and his focus turned to her.
Just before this happened, I had to pick up my son, and take him home. As I was waiting for him in the car, I was crying and asked God to please send me some sign, even if it were small, that he was improving, and when I went back, that happened.
Your prayers are helping more than you know. Please continue to pray for him that he makes a full recovery.
The novena is here. I can't tell you how much it would mean if as many of you as possible participated.
http://www.ourladyofgoodsuccess.com/He had just come home from the hospital days before after getting a tracheostomy operation and being in the VA hospital for a month. My uncle had gone up there to see him, and had said to him, "I'm sorry you're suffering so much." My dad replied, "Please, don't take that away from me, I'm suffering for my children and grandchildren."
Even in the dire state he is in right now, he would want to suffer this way. He's said it before that if he ever had to be hooked up to machines like this, he would want to suffer for us. So regardless, his suffering right now is a blessing, but a recovery in this circuмstance would be nothing short of miraculous.
Prayers!
