  • I have a cousin who is a Novus Ordo Catholic. She is dating a Baptist Minister. I am very concerned about this because I'm afraid he will try to convert her, especially since he is a minister. I'm also worried that if he converts her, he will try to convert the half of my family that is Catholic. I'm not worried about him converting me or my mother since we know better (we're the only Traditionalists in our family), but the half of my family that is Catholic is NO, and I'm afraid some of them may not be aware of the dangers of leaving the Catholic Faith, especially since the other half of my family is Protestant.

So please, either pray that they break up or that if they continue to date, she will not become Protestant and will end up converting him. Thank you.

  • Please be assured of my prayers.

Helpful hint: St. Raphael the Archangel would be the celestial Patron to whom to pray for matters pertaining to courtship, betrothal and marriage. Also, pray to the Angel-Guardians of everyone involved, so that the Catholic faith may be kept inviolate by your family and those who are not of the faith may be converted to the Church.

  • Thanks Spouse of Jesus and Hobbledehoy for your kind responses. And Hobble, thanks for mentioning St. Raphael the Archangel! I know alot about him, although I forgot he was the Patron for courtship and marriage. Thanks so much for mentioning him in your post. I love St. Raphael.

    You're welcome, friend!

The Book of Tobias is very beautiful and gives an exemplary image of holy nuptials and a sanctified family life, as well as a beautiful example of the patronage and tutelage of St. Raphael and of the holy Angels in general.

  • SS, as most of my maternal family is Southern Baptist, I understand your fears and concerns.  This is a very difficult time in which we live, especially with Catholics not understanding the danger to their soul from marrying Protestants.

This morning in my readings I came across the reminder to trust St. Joseph.  He is the Protector of the Church.  Instead of being afraid, he kept Our Most Blessed Mother and Our Precious Lord under his watchful and loving eye.

I have a special devotion to St. Joseph.  He has never failed my families prayers--and some of those prayers have seemed almost impossible!

Also say many, many Rosaries!  Baptists HATE Our Most Beloved and Beautiful Mother!  Since NO Catholics don't particularly pray the Rosary regularly (and your family might, I don't know), Protestants are not usually intimidated.  But when you start praying the Rosary, they will scatter.  Trust me.

Maybe you can offer to get together with your cousin and her "fiancee" to pray the Rosary together?

I wish you peace and blessings during this time.

  • Thanks, CathMomof7. I do not know if my family prays the Rosary. My mother and I say it every day. I know my grandmother never says it, and I wouldn't expect my other family members to either considering the Vatican II church has almost completely abandoned it. You're right, though. Protestants can't stand the Rosary. Growing up, whenever my mother and I would say the Rosary, my Protestant father wouldn't come anywhere near us. Anyway, thank you for your compassion and advice.

    God Bless.

  •

I will ask the intercession of both St. Raphael and St. Joseph for your family.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Excellent! St. Joseph had the most beautiful and pious of marriages! He would therefore be the Saint to whom to pray regarding matters pertaining to matrimony, betrothal and courtship.

Indeed, St. Joseph is the Saint to whom to pray for everything! I wouldn't be able to pay the mortgage if it were not for his patronage and tutelage. He is the special gift given us by the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary!

Another excellent counsel, and one most apt for this beautiful month of May!

I found that making the Sign of the Cross also when around serious protestants makes them scatter in the same manner a light forces the cockroaches to run for the darkness. And it is no wonder.

  • Thanks, John Grace and Catholic Samurai. I appreciate the prayers. Especially considering how important it is that my cousin remains Catholic.
