  • I have been diagnosed with a fibroid tumor in my uterus. It is 6 cm in size (a baseball is 9 cm). With a fibroid there is only 1% chance it could become cancerous. I am planning to have an utlrasound at the end of May to see if the size has rapidly increased. If it is rapidly increasing, then I would need surgery. But if it is not fast growing, I can maybe wait a year or two.

The problem is that I can't have surgery now because my grandmother, whom I take care of, would have to go to a nursing home. It has taken her 1 month to recover from a 2 day hospital stay. If it wasn't for me being diligent about getting her out of bed and walking, she would have never walked again. At the nursing home, they would not take the time to walk her since it takes a special way to walk her by standing behind her while holding her walker and then pushing her with your stomach. They would also leave her in her bed to poopoo since it takes 2 people to take her to the bathroom and the process is difficult. She would also get sicker because there are sick people there and the staff are not hygenic (when she went to 3 different hospitals before, the nurses were spreading poo poo all over new sheets and nightie when they diaper changed her. When she was at the hospital a month ago, I stayed with her all night so she wouldn't be scared alone (she does not know how to speak English). At the nursing home, they won't let anyone stay overnight. Basically, she would either die there or come out physically and mentally worse than having gone in.

So, please pray that my fibroid has not grown so that I can hold off on the surgery until Granny passes (she is 98 years old so she probably has a year or two longer).

  • I'll pray for you Alex.

You're a good woman to take care of your grandmother like that.

Are they really that bad in these nursing homes? I hope I die before I get that old.  If it's that bad now, I can't imagine what it will be like in twenty years.

  • I willl pray for you. Check out Progesterone Creme.
I am using this for the same reason (I am 49 years old right now, so menopausal as well). I got a book for .04 ! off Amazon called What you really need to know about Premenopause. It is a great book to help us avoid Dr.s and there surgery and pills.

  • Thanks everyone for your prayers.

If Granny gets sent to a nursing home, I feel like I want to go there and die with her.

  • This too I understand. My 94 year old Grandmother lives with us. She could never take a nursing home. She can walk to the bathroom still, though jut barely. Can your Grandmother  move at all? I do not know how long you would be down, but they do have Visiting Nurses here where I am that can come in once a day or so. I do not know all that is happening with you, but I tell you Progesterone Creme and Magnesium has helped me where I do not think I am dying every month. PM me if you wish

  • Gosh, Alex, you must be shaving plenty of time off Purgatory! That's wonderful of you to look after your Gran, it reminds me of St. Therese's sister who had to look after their father when all the others had left home.

So sorry to hear of your illness, prayers for your health and for your Gran

  • Dear Alexandria and Adesto,

Just to set the record straight, I am not a good woman and I have not shaved time off purgatory for taking care of my grandmother. On the contrary, since taking care of Granny, I have become a worse Catholic. My prayer life is barely existant (a few seconds in the morning and night only), I have started cussing after 10 years of not doing so, and I often disrespect my mother in tone and behavior because of resentment and being fed up of all the rules she tries to impose on Granny. If I was a good Catholic, I would have been able to convert my family by now with all the suffering I have endured taking care of Granny. But God is not too happy with me and all my sufferings these past 7 years have gone to waste.

Thank you, by the way, for praying for my situation. And thankyou everyone else who are offering up prayers.

  • Whoa there. Calm down a moment. There is nothing harder in the world than taking care of a loved one who is elderly, ill or handi-capped in any way. My grandmother has been with me close to ten years now. The absolute hellish period for all this was when my mother lived with me as well. This otherwise kindly person was like a prison guard for Grandma. Is your mother living with you as well? I know full well the situation you are in. I finally sat my mother down and told her with all due respect, my house my rules. Grandma has no problems with her mind, and she did not need her daughter "butting in" as she says.
The situation you are in is so difficult. This I know. One thing that helps me is that when I need to do things for Grandma ( and there is nothing wrong with stating that some old ladies are difficult) I try to think of St. Bernadette and the love she had for her patients she cared for.
That being said, my dear priest is trying to train me to "shut my mouth." I am opinionated and strong-willed and that is where I run into trouble with being short tempered or even swearing (ask Raoul  76 about my trying to get my bad habits under control).
Read about St. John Vianney. All he ever wanted was peace and quiet. He said he wished to live the life of a monk to pray to God for his life! Can you imagine him feeling that way? And, so you and I both need to realize that THIS is how God wants us to give Glory to Him. Talk to Christ and His Mother and Saints all day long. I could not do it without them, and believe me I am still a scandal.
Also, try a few Valerian for your nerves. I do and it will help.
In my trials today ( I have 6 children too) I will think of you.
