Dear Faithful,
Most of you know that I became very sick. His Excellency Bishop Zendejas drove over 800 miles to come and give me Extreme Unction. I was in the emergency ward at the time and hadn’t been able to bathe or shave for a few days and was pretty scruffy looking. I learned he was coming a few hours before he arrived and asked to speak to the Charge Nurse. She agreed to stop all procedures, procedures were incessant and around the clock, from about an hour before his expected arrival until he left. He came, heard by confession, gave me Extreme Unction and the Apostolic blessing and admonished me to offer my sufferings in union with Our Lord’s sacrifice on the Cross. He is a true High Priest zealous for souls and willing to sacrifice Himself for souls. He is short-handed at the moment and it was a big sacrifice for him to come to me. I am very grateful to him.
I am grateful for all of your prayers. Thank you very much and keep them up as I am not well.
I said Mass today, Sunday, for the first time in over a week.
The first time I was in emergency one day diagnosed with pneumonia in the left lung and discharged. On the advice of a nurse I went back and was admitted to emergency again. I spent five days there followed by three days on a ward and discharged. Again I think that I was discharged too soon as I am pretty sure that I still have pneumonia. And they took me off of antibiotics too quickly. The Nurse mentioned and my brother, a doctor, want me to go to a doctor. They also think that I still have pneumonia. However the clinic is closed on weekends and this is a long weekend in Manitoba as Monday, tomorrow, is a holiday. And I don’t want to go to emergency.
Anyway I had pneumonia in both lungs, fluids around the heart and lungs, swollen ankles, diabetic ketoacidosis, rash on legs. An echocardiogram showed that my heart is good.
It is my intention to stay here in Manitoba for at least the next few weeks, Hopefully I will recover.
Unfortunately many of you in Australia and New Zealand will not have Mass until I get back there. Keep the Sundays holy. I recommend that you not go to SSPX or indult Masses.
God bless,
Fr. MacDonald
