  • I thought I'd start this thread off with a picture of the altar at my local parish church, St. Mary of Ostrabrama. The church was finished and consecrated in 1903. There simply aren't words to describe how lovely it is, both inside and out. I only wish the true Mass was still being offered there.

Now it's your turn... pictures of your church or chapel, pictures of historic altars that may no longer exist, or pictures of shrines that are dear to you.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

  • One of my favorite Churches is St. Gereon in Cologne, one of its twelve Romanesque Basilicas. The first structures date back to the middle of the 4th century.

Of even greater beauty, but further from my home, is the the Cathedral of Aachen, the former Imperial Church of Charlemagne.

Much humbler, a grotto of Our Lady in my own home town. One of the many places of devotion and remnants of old times of the simple piety of country folks in my town.

  • There are many many many beautiful churches where I live (San Francisco, CA.) I bet many were more beautiful before novus ordoizations, wreckovations and closures due to earthquakes and lack of funds.

Let me post some churches of personal significance.

My paternal family's parish in our village of Tarimoro, Mexican. Church of San Miguel.

My maternal family's parish in the Philippines, the Church of San Pedro Bautista. The second oldest church in the Philippines.

  • St. Procopius Abbey, Chicago, Illinois. January 3, 1960.

This Chapel has long since been replaced with a modern structure,
fitting with all the modernism of this day.
St. Procopius has a website, check it out.

  • That is the high altar in the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. Just imagine that the Novus Ordo altar isn't there. There's a lot of beautiful side altars in the cathedral as well, even after VII. They just aren't used for Holy Mass.

  • Another view of the St Pius V Roman Catholic Parish in Boston, MA., on
11/22/1964.  A layman lecture is already reading parts of the Mass, and the
protestant table to replace the Altar of Sacrifice is just weeks away.
