Paul Mann posted the following on his go fund me page which explains his situation better:
I don't have Medicare Part B.
I have Part A, which does nothing for my current problem.
Part B is not free. I was $104 when I started Medicare in
2013 at 65. At that time I was in debt $6,000 and unemployed because of my stroke in 2004.
My SSI was $773/mo in 2013. $773 - 104 = $669 to live on. So I chose not to get Part B. I don't have home-owners insurance
either, because it was over $100/mo. My small house is unfinished on the inside, so don't think I'm living in luxury.
If I get Medicare Part B now, I have to pay back the last 10
years that I did not pay for it, by paying double for the next 10
years.
I would then be paying $340/mo next year. So over the next 10
years I would be paying $40,800 to Medicare, if it does not increase. Then there is the copay of 20% before the surgery.
I lost my right eye in 1992, after 3 surgeries. I was slowly going blind in my good eye for the last 2 years, because of a cataract.
I got a new lens on May 24 2022. My cost was over $6,000.
Not to get more sympathy, just to explain my situation. If you
cannot afford to donate, please don't. I'm sure you all
have other pressing obligations.
May God bless you for taking an interest.
