  • Paul Mann posted the following on his go fund me page which explains his situation better:

    I don't have Medicare Part B.
I have Part A, which does nothing for my current problem.

Part B is not free. I was $104 when I started Medicare in
2013 at 65. At that time I was in debt $6,000 and unemployed because of my stroke in 2004.

    My SSI was $773/mo in 2013. $773 - 104 = $669 to live on. So I chose not to get Part B. I don't have home-owners insurance
either, because it was over $100/mo. My small house is unfinished on the inside, so don't think I'm living in luxury.

If I get Medicare Part B now, I have to pay back the last 10
years that I did not pay for it, by paying double for the next 10
    years.

I would then be paying $340/mo next year. So over the next 10
years I would be paying $40,800 to Medicare, if it does not increase. Then there is the copay of 20% before the surgery.

I lost my right eye in 1992, after 3 surgeries. I was slowly going blind in my good eye for the last 2 years, because of a cataract.
I got a new lens on May 24 2022. My cost was over $6,000.

Not to get more sympathy, just to explain my situation. If you
cannot afford to donate, please don't. I'm sure you all
    have other pressing obligations.

May God bless you for taking an interest.
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

  • Uhm, just get the Medicare Part B, Paul ... it's a no-brainer.

You can get 10 years of the Medicare Part B for just what this single surgery would cost ... assuming, God willing, that you live another 10 years.

AND ... what if other stuff happens in those next 10 years?  Now you have to go back to GoFundMe for the next procedure ... and the next.

I'll be happy to make a donation ... toward the Medicare costs and then the 20% co-pay, but wasting the entire amount on a single procedure and then being back in the same boat when the amount could cover 10 years of Medicare B?  That makes zero sense.

Beween us here, I'd be shocked if we do not see the Great Reset economic collapse within the next 2-3 years, so there's that too.

  • I see that he has $36,000 already ... same price as the better surgery.  Take the 20%, about $7200 out of that, and put the rest aside to continue making Medicare B payments.  So the remaining balance would decrease year by year, but if that next $40,000 surgery comes up, you can take the 20% out of what's left, etc.  Much smarter than just blowing the whole $36K out of the gate on this surgery, then still not having Medicare B and being back in the same boat, what, 6 months from now?

Very good point. Paul should definitely take this into consideration.
