• October is here and there are so many indulgences granted by the Supreme Pontiffs to the devotees of Our Lady's Rosary, as summarized in Matters Liturgical: The Collectio Rerum Liturgicarum of Rev. Joseph Wuest, C.Ss.R., n. 630, (trans. Rev. Thomas W. Mullaney, C.Ss.R, ed. Rev. William T. Barry; 10th rev. ed; New York: Frederick Pustet Company, 1959):

    Quote
This month is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin. To those of the faithful who in the month of October publicly or privately recite piously at least five decades of the Rosary the following indulgences are granted: an indulgence of seven years each day; a plenary indulgence if on the feast of the Holy Rosary and throughout the octave they do as noted above and if they also confess their sins, receive Communion, visit some church or public oratory; a plenary indulgence if after the octave of the feast of the Holy Rosary they recite at least five decades of the Rosary for at least ten days and if they also go to Confession, receive Communion, and visit some church or public oratory (Enchiridion Indulgentiarum, n. 398)

From The Litany of Loreto by Rev. Fr. Richard Klaver (St. Louis, MO: B. Herder Book Co., 1954) here is a beautiful reflection on the power of the Holy Rosary:

  • I found the following profound and worth meditating on the following after my reading during lunch:

    Quote
The Word became incarnate to save us by dying on the cross for us. In His sacred soul and in Mary's the fullness of grace produced two apparently contrary but intimately united effects, a deep peace which should find its reflection in us, and a desire for the cross which would continue to heighten untill the hour of the Consummatum est.

  • Here are meditations for the First Joyous Mystery of the Most Holy Rosary, found in the above-cited book Our Lady's Rosary by Rev. Frs. Charles J. Callan, O.P. and John A. McHugh, O. P., (New York: P. J. Kenedy & Sons, 1939).

The version of the New Testament employed in these texts is that of The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Translated into English from the Original Greek by the Very Rev. Francis Aloysius Spencer, O.P., edited by Rev. Frs. Charles J. Callan, O.P. and John A. McHugh, O.P. (New York: MacMillan, 1937).
