  • Anyone aware of such a novena or any prayers for a Son and healthy pregnancies?
"I receive Thee, redeeming Prince of my soul. Out of love for Thee have I studied, watched through many nights, and exerted myself: Thee did I preach and teach. I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. If I have ever expressed myself erroneously on this Sacrament, I submit to the judgement of the Holy Roman Church, in obedience of which I now part from this world." • Novena for a boy when pregnant?

    Now, that's an odd novena.

    Like, never used?

Unless he got a sex change operation first, I guess.

Then he's gonna need more than one novena.

  • No.  That the baby is a boy.

  • If the woman is already pregnant, then the sex of the child is already decided.  The baby, at this moment, is already either a boy or a girl.  If the baby is a boy, then the prayer is unnecessary.  If the baby is a girl, no amount of praying will change that.

Stick with prayers for a healthy mother and child during and after pregnancy.

Oh. Now I get it. Thanks for clearing that up. I knew there was something odd about this premise. (So what else is new?)

Also, we accept boys or girls as God wills to create them.  Sounds just a little bit too uncomfortably like the gender selection they do in countries like China with limits on children ... or in cultures where they value boys over girls.  Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Did anyone locate a novena?

I know in my prayer book there are prayers for a boy or a girl but I have the book at home so I can't quote the prayer (but may do so when I get home later today).

My initial assumption is that it would be perfectly okay for a young married couple to pray for the firstborn to be a boy (or a girl if they so desire).

Thanks for the post and for actually trying to help.  People on this thread have an amazing grasp of the obvious.  I guess that is laudable to a certain extent.
