  • Please that mu parents and I can soon get some resolution with my private school loans. I pay them what I can each month, but they harassing us at our own home with a lawsuit, sending men in the evenig, and even as late as going on 2:30am. Also, if anyone knows of any advice to give on the matter, I would immensely appreciate it. I have reported our problem to a few government departments and have written to my representative. I don't know if getting a lawyer would be best either, but if anyone knows any good lawyers, I would be interested to know too. I am close to finishing my master's degree to obtain better employment. Please pray that that works out as well. Thank you all.

  • Prayers for you, Kephapaulos! I will remember you in my Rosary.

    This is a prayer to St. Joseph to find work:

    Prayer to St. Joseph for Employment

    Dear Saint Joseph, you were yourself once faced with the responsibility of providing the necessities of life for Jesus and Mary. Look down with fatherly compassion upon me in my anxiety over my present inability to support my family. Please help me to find gainful employment very soon, so that this heavy burden of concern will be lifted from my heart and that I am soon able to provide for those whom God has entrusted to my care. Help us to guard against bitterness and discouragement, so that we may emerge from this trial spiritually enriched and with even greater blessings from God. Amen.

    If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • Are they federal loans?

    Quote from: Kephapaulos
    private school loans

    I'm guessing this means a private loan and not a loan to go to a private school. Is that correct?

  • Yes. They are private loans. Not federal. I am able to get the federal loans forgiven.

    I don't have any personal experience with this, but will give you some thoughts off the top of my head.

    Many student loan lenders offer deferment if you're currently in school. Have you asked if you're eligible?

    Talking (calling and especially writing) to your lender to discuss your options is better than missing or making incomplete payments without speaking to them. Be prepared to give specifics about your income and bank balances.

    If you have both federal and private loans and the private lender is not working with you, have the federal loans adjusted to free up more money to pay off the private debt.

    If your federal loans were forgiven, how did you qualify? This might be a good starting point in working with the private lender.

  • Thank you, Cantarella and MaterDominici have given specifics to them last year and the year before, but they think I am not cooperating and just keep calling even though I pay them what I can. I can also ask how I qualified for federal loans to be forgiven then as well.

  • Kephapaulos, this may not help in the short term, but for the future, it is a wise idea to keep a record of your income and expenditure. Write down in one place every cent of income and every cent of expenditure. Keep receipts until you've recorded them, no matter how small. At the end of each week make a balance, ditto for month and year. We have been able to manage very well with a very small income over the years. If you had such docuмents to show lending agencies they would be impressed and they would believe you.

    It does not take much time or effort once you get into the swing of it, and is well worth the effort.

    God bless you.
