Would someone really get an archangel as a guardian? I thought it would be left for different angels...

From what I read years ago, it is my understanding that only special saints and sometimes certain members of the Church hierarchy will receive an Archangel as a guardian angel.

St Frances of Rome and Ste Jeanne d'Arc both had St Michael given to them as an angel guardian.

Yes, and let's not forget that St. Gabriel was Our Lady's guardian angel while She was on earth!

I think St.Michael was the guardian angel over the whole Holy Family, in addition to each of them in particular.

What of naming your guardian angel though? Is it wrong, or is that just some opinion?

I've never heard anyone say that it's wrong to do so, so I think it's an opinion.

I named mine.

Hmm, well it appears that I might be wrong then. Perhaps it is only archangels that watch over more than one person? I guess it cannot be known for certain.
