Memory is oft times faulty, but it seems to me that pre-1962, black vestments were worn for a Memorial Mass for the Dead (Low Mass); Memorial Masses were not permitted on Sundays, Holy Days and feast days (e.g., Sts. Peter & Paul). Propers from the Missa pro Defunctis were added as second prayers to those of the day. Commemoration Masses for the living were not permitted either.
1) Was black the proper liturgical color?
2) Was the Mass of the day offered with additions for the dead; or did the Mass
of the Dead take preference?
3) Were Memorial or Commemorative Masses permitted as stated above?
