  • Matthew, how did you find out?  Any chance of more info on what happened?

A member wrote in, with the link I posted. That's it.

BTW -- when someone dies, or some other bad thing happens, and a CathInfo member brings it to your attention, you should not SHOOT THE MESSENGER.

Someone downvoted my post! I'm not one for complaining about every little downvote. But I suspect someone doesn't understand what upvote/downvote is for.

Would you rather NOT know when someone you know and care about has passed away? If so, maybe the downvote was justified.

An upvote for a post announcing someone's death does NOT mean "Yay! I'm glad he's dead!" Rather, it means, "Thank you for letting me know. I'm glad you let me know; now I can pray for him."

And a downvote doesn't mean, "Booo!  I'm not happy at all that he's dead! In fact, I'm quite sad!"

A downvote means, "Hey buddy, next time the chance comes up, how about you DON'T post something like this, mmmkay?" and it slightly dings the poster's reputation. Why ding the reputation of an innocent poster who did nothing wrong, other than inform you about some bad news? That's not a legit way to show grief, or love for the deceased. That's just being a jerk.

So next time I find out a CathInfo member has died, I should keep it to myself and not let anyone know? Just curious what the anonymous downvoter was thinking here.

I'm going to go with the person made a mistake.  I have accidentally down-thumbed especially when I'm on my phone.

    1. I hope so.
    2. Forum etiquette, in such a situation, is to PUBLICLY make a post apologizing for said mistake. "I down-thumbed this by accident. Sorry!" and then all is well.
    3. Even if it was just a mistake, I'm still glad I posted the public reminder of what up/down votes mean. They mean "Thank you for posting this valuable content" or "No thanks; if posts like this are all you have to offer, then please leave."

  • No matter what forum drama was going on, he always remained even-tempered.
I'm looking at his profile.  That reputation score says something in itself: Reputation:+3833/-398

These words from his profile really seem to capture his personality:
"Love God and Play, Do Good Work and Pray"

These were not hollow words.  He really lived them in his interactions with us.

If he leaves such a sense of loss behind here on the forum, I can only imagine how hard this must be for his loved ones and acquaintances in real life.
I hope the person who down voted the above made a mistake.

I accidentally hit the down vote button.

It's too bad we can't "un-vote" when we make a mistake.

    Yeah, that would be nice

  • Very surprising and sad.

Missing you and will remember you for your kindness, simplicity, love of God and fellow neighbors. And butterflies.

Prayers for the repose of your gentle soul and prayers for your family.

  • What a shock! :'(

I remember him wanting to make a prayerbook for children, writing out prayers, being gentle and child-like, appreciating nature (especially butterflies), visiting his blind friend.

May Matto rest in peace and may the Lord have mercy upon his soul!

  • Yes, his blind friend. I am sure many will miss him. :pray::pray:
